\n\t\u201cProud<\/a>,\u201d a show that came out of nowhere at Series Mania<\/a> to become one of its leading crowd-pleasers yet may still be controversial in its native Poland, walked off Friday night at the French TV festival\u2019s top Grand Prix.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tCreated by Karol Klementewicz, \u201cProud\u201d also won lead Ignacy Liss best actor for his engratiating turn as a young gay man, a party animal, who\u2019s suddenly forced to step up his game and take care of a baby orphaned by his late sister. The two hope that the series will spark dialog in Poland where there are no legal previous for gay couples\u00a0 to adopt children.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere hasn\u2019t been a show like this before, and this subject continues to polarize our society. I think \u2018Proud\u2019 has a chance to show both sides and prove that you can \u2013 and you should \u2013 talk to each other,\u201d Liss told\u00a0Variety\u00a0ahead of the show\u2019s world premiere at Series Mania.<\/p>\n

\n\tBeyond Poland, whose medical drama-espionage thriller, strikingly directed by Kuba Czekaj, won a Student Jury Award, much of the night belonged to the BBC<\/a>, with two early 2026 gems winning major plaudits at Series Mania, Waiting for the Out, scooping best screenplay, while best sries and actor plaudits in International Panorama went to \u201cDetectorists\u201d creator Mackenzie Crook\u2019s \u201cSmall Prophets<\/a>,\u201d hailed by The Guardian as \u201ca magical new comedy, pure, pure pleasure.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe coveted main competition Audience Award was won by Australian ABC-BBC-ZDF drama \u201cDustfall,\u201d a sweaty and discomforting Australia tropical noir \u201cDustfall,\u201d driven by a powerhouse performance by Anna Torv.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are delighted that the awards list confirms the trends we observed: the strong presence of the United Kingdom and the quality of Polish series, both awarded three times, as well as the notable presence of Quebec,\u201d \u00a0said Laurence Herszberg, founder and managing director of Series Mania.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tShe added: \u201cWe are also particularly pleased that such a unique series as\u00a0\u2018The Flaws\u2019\u00a0has earned its place among the winners. Finally, we commend the presence of two fully female teams in their creation, production, and direction,\u00a0\u2018My. \n\t\u201cMy Brother\u201d took best actress for Amanda Jansson (\u201cThin Blue Line\u201d) who delivers a remarkable performance in an SVT psychological mystery-thriller of elemental, carnal passions with Jansson playing Jana who returns home to remote Smal\u00e5nger in rural to save her brother Bror, drinking himself to death after heartbreak in love, and haltingly confront her own past of ghastly domestic abuse. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tQuebec took home an actor plaudit for Maxime Le Flaguais (\u201cRodeo\u201d) as a conflicted investigator Gabriel Serpent in what Variety describes as a \u201cdark and quaint crime dramedy,\u201d \u201cWelcome to Kingston-Falls,\u201d while best short form series went to \u201cAyer\u2019s Cliff,\u201d from Canada\u2019s Zacharie Larou and Edouard Gringas, an \u201coffbeat thriller which shatters the codes of film noir to deliver an unpredictable and hilarious getaway, where unabashed kitsch is elevated to the level of high art,\u201d in Series Mania\u2019s own words.<\/p>\n

\n\tArne Feldhussen took best director for ZDF\u2019s \u201cThe Flaws.\u201d He could have won an award for originality \u2013 and pure insanity \u2013 Think \u201cThe Office\u201d but with the kind of uncontrollable physical humor Monty Python would love to dabble in.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n
