There are few things more humanizing, in a famous person, than unguarded enthusiasm\u2014those topics that blow past any measure of media training, poise, or even just basic concerns about looking cool, and just have a major Hollywood star gush for a minute about the little obsessions lurking permanently in their brains. Take, as a recent Exhibit A, Ryan Gosling\u2019s recent comments about Days Of Our Lives, in which the\u00a0Project Hail Mary<\/a>\u00a0star revealed that he\u2019s a massive fan of the long-running soap, and specifically star Deidre Hall, on an episode of Josh Horowitz\u2019s\u00a0Happy Sad Confused\u00a0podcast<\/a>. And, if you need an Exhibit B, observe an even more recent video of Gosling<\/a> responding to an invitation to come visit the show\u2019s set from Hall<\/a>\u2014described as his \u201cOG acting inspiration\u201d\u2014with an \u201centhusiastic\u201d yes.<\/p>\n

Gosling and Horowitz got on the topic of\u00a0Days\u00a0while discussing the actor\u2019s childhood viewing habits, which apparently involved a lot of daytime television. (He also notes that he faked sick from school so he could stay home and watch Regis and Kathy Lee.) Gosling\u2014who didn\u2019t come up in the soap world, having instead gotten his start with Disney and Nickelodeon stuff\u2014says he came to develop real admiration for the work soap actors do under hard conditions, praising them for playing \u201cimpossible scenarios\u201d with very little preparation time. (He specifically cited Hall\u2019s talents vis-\u00e0-vis all the various times her character, Marlena Evans, has been possessed by demons or the devil.)<\/p>\n

What\u2019s key here is that there do not seem to be any layers of irony in Gosling\u2019s appreciation: He sounds genuinely jazzed to be invited to come visit the Days\u00a0set\u2014even if the demands of promoting a film that\u2019s currently the number one movie in the country<\/a> might mean he can\u2019t make his trip to Salem, Illinois, quite as soon as he might like.<\/p>\n
