Viewers have said the same thing as Pat Kenny made his triumphant return to the Late Late Show.

The former Late Late host has worn many hats on TV and radio over the years, hosting shows such as Kenny Tonight, the Eurovision and on Newstalk with the Pat Kenny Show — where he can currently be heard on the weekends.

Returning to the Late Late on Friday, Pat spoke about his illustrious career, most notably his 10-year presenting job on the Late Late after succeeding Gay Byrne.

Having presented dozens of notable interviews over the years, Pat said that one of his most notable interviews was with Joe O’Reilly, who brutally murdered his wife, Rachel Calally, back in 2004.

O’Reilly, as well as Rachel’s mother, appeared on the Late Late for an ‘appeal’ for information surrounding Rachel’s killer, not aware that her killer was actually sitting on the couch that very night — with Pat saying that, although O’Reilly hadn’t been charged at the time, there was still an air of tension before he went on the air.

‘It was a strange encounter,’ Pat told Patrick Kielty. ‘[O’Reilly] was there, and his in-laws were there, and there was a tension in the air.’

‘Not everyone was convinced at that time that he was the guilty party — that emerged later — but there was a strangeness in the relationship between Rose and Jim [Rachel’s parents] and Joe O’Reilly.

‘Even afterwards, Joe vanished very quickly,’ Pat added. ‘The rest of us went to the green room, had tea, coffee, a glass of wine and a chat about the terrible situation that they’d found themselves in. Joe split very, very quickly, which we all thought was rather odd.’

Pat’s appearance on the Late Late drew praise from viewers on social media — with many believing that, despite last presenting the Late Late nearly two decades ago, he’s barely aged since then, even as he nears his 80th birthday.

‘Pat Kenny looks great for 78,’ one person wrote on Twitter (X). ‘Looks 20 years younger,’ while another wrote: ‘Pat Kenny looks f*****g great… what is he using?’

Between current affairs, Eurovision, the Toy Show etc, he’s done it all. He’s been on TV and radio for decades and still doing an incredible job. Legend.’
