Bloc Party<\/a> debuted three new songs from their upcoming album at BBC 6 Music Festival<\/a> \u2013 check out footage below.<\/p>\n

The group\u2019s forthcoming album and follow-up to 2022\u2019s \u2018Alpha Games\u2019<\/a> is\u00a0being helmed by Trevor Horn, producer of classic records by the likes of Grace Jones<\/a>,\u00a0Pet Shop Boys<\/a>,\u00a0ABC<\/a>,\u00a0Frankie Goes To Hollywood<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Belle And Sebastian<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Frontman Kele Okereke<\/a> previously told NME\u00a0their seventh studio album would be \u201cdisco heartbreak\u201d inspired<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now, fans have been given the first taste of the record, which seems to take them to a more dance-inspired direction. During their set in Manchester yesterday (March 27), Okereke told the crowd: \u201cWe have been beavering away on a new album,\u201d before debuting three new songs throughout the performance.<\/p>\n

They opened with the hypnotic \u2018Coming On Strong\u2019, with Okereke singing over a pulsing bassline: \u201cMy baby comes on strong, but it\u2019s okay, it\u2019s what I want.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later in the set, they performed \u2018Love Bombs\u2019, a synth-led anthem about overbearing romantic love. Built upon a striking guitar riff, the track flows into a melodic chorus and features a nostalgic, slowed vocal effect.<\/p>\n

Finally, they played \u2018Pigwig\u2019, a catchy, classic indie-rock track with a Duritti Column-esque bridge.<\/p>\n

Okereke spoke to NME last year about working with \u201csuper-producer\u201d Horn: \u201cHe\u2019s made some of my favourite records of all time, so it\u2019s quite interesting to hear what he has to say. He\u2019s been making records for most of his life, for over 50 years, so he seems to know all the tricks. He seems to know everyone as well and have a story about everyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a record about heartbreak, really \u2013 that\u2019s the only thing I can say about it at this stage,\u201d he added. \u201cHopefully it will be out next year, but we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked about the sound of the album, Okereke replied at the time: \u201cWe\u2019re only halfway through with six songs. I think it feels quite synthetic in places. The term that we were bandying around at the start was \u2018disco heartbreak\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was the umbrella, but it\u2019s kind of morphed into something else. We\u2019re only six songs in, so it could go completely left. We\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n
