After 11 seasons, ABC<\/a>‘s Happy Days signed off with an emotional flashback powered by one of the saddest songs Elvis Presley<\/a> ever recorded.<\/p>\n

“Passages” was the finale of the beloved comedy series. It featured the wedding of Joanie Cunningham (Erin Moran) and Chachi Arcola (Scott Baio).<\/p>\n

The episode was a one-hour special, as reported by Remind Magazine<\/a>. Joanie and Chachi become engaged, and past cast members returned to celebrate their marriage, tying a big bow on the beloved series.<\/p>\n

The series had come to a natural end after many of the original cast members left, such as Donny Most (Ralph), Ron Howard (Richie), Pat Morita (Arnold), and Lynda Goodfriend (Lori Beth) and the storylines began to age out the characters. By the finale, Fonzie (Henry Winkler) was a teacher<\/a> with an adopted son, the main characters were married, and the show’s youngest characters were all college-aged and beyond.<\/p>\n

The finale episode tugged on viewer heartstrings, as Elvis Presley’s 1968 song “Memories” played in the background of a montage of the series’ most memorable moments. The sad Mac Davis and Billy Strange\u2013penned song perfectly captured the bittersweet farewell as the beloved show came to a close.<\/p>\n

Just before the montage, Tom Bosley (Howard) broke the fourth wall of television by looking directly into the camera, according to Remind Magazine. The actor delivered a speech thanking fans for being loyal viewers for over a decade.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, what can I say? Both of our children are married now and they\u2019re starting out to build lives of their own,” he began.<\/p>\n

“And I guess when you reach a milestone like this, you must have to reflect on what you\u2019ve done and what you\u2019ve accomplished. Marion [Marion Ross] and I have not climbed Mount Everest or written a great American novel. But we\u2019ve had the joy of raising two wonderful kids, and watching them and their friends grow up into loving adults.”<\/p>\n

“And now, we\u2019re going to have the pleasure of watching them pass that love on to their children. And I guess no man or woman could ask for anything more. So thank you<\/a> all for being part of our family \u2026 To happy days.\u201d<\/p>\n

Happy Days aired its final episode on May 8, 1984. It marked the end of an era, closing the chapter on a beloved show that had become a defining part of 1970s and \u201980s television culture.<\/p>\n
