Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua\/SCREENGRAB<\/p>\n

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has addressed a family succession matter concerning the estate of his late brother, Nderitu Gachagua, saying the process was implemented according to the deceased\u2019s will. \n<\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview, Gachagua emphasised that succession matters fall under the jurisdiction of the courts, noting that any concerns about inheritance should be addressed through legal channels.<\/p>\n


\n\u201cThe law of succession is handled by courts of law. If anybody is dissatisfied with what is happening in a succession implementation, you go to court,\u201d he said. \n<\/p>\n

He explained that the dispute relates to the estate of his late brother, who passed away in 2017 and left a detailed will specifying how his wealth was to be distributed. <\/p>\n


\nAccording to Gachagua, the will clearly identified beneficiaries and their respective shares, ensuring that all individuals connected to the deceased were considered. \n<\/p>\n

He said the estate was to be distributed among 21 beneficiaries.
\nThe will directed that all properties be sold, debts settled, and the remaining proceeds shared according to specified percentages. <\/p>\n


\n\u201cSome were getting 10 per cent, others 5 per cent, others 2 per cent or 3 per cent, all clearly indicated in the will,\u201d he said. \n<\/p>\n

According to Gachagua, three executors were appointed to oversee the process, including the deceased\u2019s lawyer, a long-time friend, and a family member, with instructions to implement the will as written. \n<\/p>\n

Gachagua said that after the will was read, all beneficiaries confirmed their agreement to its contents. <\/p>\n


\n\u201cThe court adopted the will and allowed the executors to go ahead and execute it in accordance with the wishes of the deceased person,\u201d he said. \n<\/p>\n

He added that the process was completed about eight years ago, with properties sold, debts settled, and proceeds distributed directly to beneficiaries\u2019 accounts as per the will.<\/p>\n


\nGachagua maintained that the succession process was lawful and transparent, stressing that disputes should be addressed through proper legal mechanisms. <\/p>\n

He urged that any concerns related to inheritance be resolved through courts rather than public or political platforms. \n<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the family of the late James Nderitu Gachagua has appealed to the State to intervene over the administration of his estate. <\/p>\n

In a media statement dated Friday, March 27, 2026, the immediate family said they had been forced to go public after efforts to resolve the matter privately failed. \n<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter careful and thoughtful consideration, we, the family of the late Hon.
