It was reported at the start of the year that Darlington has the sixth highest suicide rate in the country, higher than the national average<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n\n Darlington\u2019s figures show an increased rate of suicides per 100,000 population that was significantly greater than the England average over recent years, which \u201cmust be addressed as a priority,\u201d the council said.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n And Five members Richie Neville and Scott Robinson spoke about the importance of chatting to people and talking about mental health.\n<\/p>\n
\n Ritchie said: \u201cIt is really important to talk about mental health. I can categorically say all five of us at some point have definitely had our struggles with mental health.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cIt is really important to talk about it. The more you bottle stuff up; it can get so much worse.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cYou have got to share, and you might not feel you have someone to share those feelings with and that is why services like Calm and Samaritans are really good.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Scott added: \u201cI just think it is really important to speak at the end of the day. The figures are staggering for men that do not talk and then go and do the unthinkable thing.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cIf we can even tell people to just pick up the phone and speak to your buddy you haven\u2019t spoken to for a while and see how they are, then that\u2019s great.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cAnd you don\u2019t even have to speak about it necessarily, but going to the pub or having a coffee is enough to maybe break out of that spell.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
