EastEnders fans have pointed out a continuity problem with the soap’s flashforward narrative after BBC Radio 2 presenter Scott Mills was sacked from his position at the corporation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The radio DJ and television presenter was fired earlier today following an investigation into allegations regarding his personal conduct, bringing an end to his 28-year stint at the BBC in the process.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Mills had featured in the flashforward episode<\/a> of the BBC soap, which saw the action take place on New Year’s Day in 2027. The instalment, which aired on 1 January, saw Mills make a small voice cameo in his now-former role.<\/p>\n

In the scene, the presenter interacts with the Branning family via the radio, saying: “How is 2027 going for you? Time for some messages \u2013 Max Branning, good luck on your wedding day.”<\/p>\n

“Wow \u2013 it says here, fifth time lucky. That is from Oscar, hotter than ever in 2027. I am guessing you wrote that yourself, Oscar! And that one is also from Lauren too!,” he added in the scene.<\/p>\n

With the scene taking place in the EastEnders universe in 2027, several fans have pointed out that Mills’s sacking creates a continuity error, with one noting on X<\/a>: “Scott Mills was on the radio in the #EastEnders flashforward so that’s going to have to be retconned.”<\/p>\n

“How will EastEnders explain that one – Scott Mills sacked from the BBC!!! Bit awkward he was featured in the flash forward episode,” wrote another fan<\/a>, while a third remarked<\/a>: “Scott Mills has given the EastEnders writers the worse scenario.”<\/p>\n

“Of all that could go wrong in 12 months, the radio voiceover of Scott Mills was not what I thought would be the thing to eff up the flashforward!! It’s the easiest thing to fix I suppose, so there’s that,” noted a fourth viewer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Though it creates somewhat of a continuity error, Digital Spy understands that the plan for the flashforward storyline has always been to show the events of the episode from new perspectives rather than repeating scenes, so there won’t be any impact behind the scenes.<\/p>\n

Following Mills’s sacking, a spokesperson from the BBC told Digital Spy: “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted and has left the BBC.”<\/p>\n

Digital Spy has approached Mills’s representatives for comment, but hasn’t heard anything back at the time of writing.<\/p>\n

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.<\/p>\n
