\n\tJames Blake<\/a> has asked for his production credit to be removed from Kanye West<\/a>\u2019s new album, Bully<\/a>, but not for the reasons you\u2019d expect when someone asks to be uncoupled from anything Ye-related these days.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tBlake is credited on Bully\u2019s final track, \u201cThis One Here,\u201d and it\u2019s a song he definitely worked on; Blake confirmed as much when Ye premiered an earlier version of the song at a nightclub event in 2022<\/a>. But in a message shared on the social media platform Vault<\/a>, Blake said the \u201cspirit\u201d of his contribution was no longer present in the final cut.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe way I pitched his vocals and constructed the track from his freestyle is partially there, majorly peppered with other newer vocal takes etc,\u201d Blake wrote. \u201cBut the spirit of my actual production is mostly absent other than that. My original version is a completely different production in spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBlake added: \u201cHappy for the fans but I\u2019ve asked to be taken off the producer credits for now as I don\u2019t want to take credit for other people\u2019s work and this version isn\u2019t what I created with Ye.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe musician further stressed that this was a creative choice, rather than anything related to the countless controversies<\/a> Ye has<\/a> embroiled<\/a> himself in<\/a> these past few years (and is ostensibly trying to move past<\/a>). \u201cIt\u2019s not personal,\u201d Blake said. \u201cI just hit a point where [I] don\u2019t want to be credited on music where I can\u2019t affect the end result.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tA rep for Ye did not immediately return Rolling Stone\u2018s request for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tTalk of various collaborations between Blake and West<\/a> has abounded for years, but little has actually come of it. In the mid-2010s, the two heaped mutual praise<\/a> on each other, and reports emerged that they\u2019d spent time in the studio together, but nothing was ever released. At one point, West was expected to appear on Blake\u2019s 2016 album, The Color in Anything, but a verse on the track \u201cTimeless\u201d never came to fruition. Finally, in 2024, Blake appeared on West and Ty Dolla $ign\u2019s Vultures 1 project, contributing production the song, \u201cTalking \/ Once Again.\u201d<\/p>\n
