{"id":375089,"date":"2026-03-31T18:38:24","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T18:38:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/375089\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T18:38:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T18:38:24","slug":"insufficient-sleep-may-increase-older-workers-risk-of-a-fib-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/375089\/","title":{"rendered":"Insufficient sleep may increase older workers\u2019 risk of A-fib: study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kumamoto, Japan \u2014 Older workers who don\u2019t get enough sleep may have a higher risk of developing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/heart-disease\/about\/atrial-fibrillation.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">atrial fibrillation<\/a> \u2013 a condition in which the heart beats in an irregular way, according to Japanese researchers.<\/p>\n<p>A team from Kumamoto University and the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center looked at data from more than 36,000 people in their 50s (\u201cpeak working age\u201d) and 70s (\u201ctypical retirement age\u201d). They found that, among participants in their 50s, less sleep was \u201csignificantly associated\u201d with a higher likelihood of A-fib.<\/p>\n<p>However, \u201ceach additional minute of sleep was linked to a measurable reduction in AF risk,\u201d the researchers say in a university press release.<\/p>\n<p>Added study co-author Tadashi Hoshiyama: \u201cOur results provide objective evidence that sleep duration matters for heart rhythm health, particularly in working adults.
