Although Grand Seiko<\/a> is now firmly established on the international watch scene, Credor<\/a> is still something of a niche brand. Founded in 1974 as the high-end division of Seiko Corporation, with a focus on refined, ultra-thin dress watches decorated with artisanal techniques, Credor was originally available only in Japan until the release of the Locomotive in 2024<\/a>. Marking its first attendance at the 2026 edition of Watches and Wonders<\/a>, the Japanese brand unveils an ultra-thin Goldfeather embellished with a traditional urushi lacquer dial in a rich blue colour, with the reference GBBY967.<\/p>\n

The first Goldfeather originated in 1960 as a slim dress watch line, powered by Seiko\u2019s ultra-thin mechanical calibre 60 \u2013 the world\u2019s thinnest 3-hand mechanical movement at that time \u2013 followed by its 1969 successor, calibre 6800 with a thickness of just 1.98mm. This family of ultra-thin movements would eventually become the cornerstone of the high-end Credor brand in 1974. In 2023, Credor revived the Goldfeather line<\/a> as a modern dress watch designed to evoke the thin, lightweight and graceful qualities of a feather. Following the enamel<\/a> and porcelain<\/a> editions, the latest Goldfeather\u00a0displays a handmade urushi lacquered dial.<\/p>\n

In keeping with the collection\u2019s elegant personality, the hand-polished platinum case of the new Goldfeather GBBY967 model measures 37.4mm across and has a slim profile of 8.1mm. The star of the show, though, is the deep blue hand-lacquered dial.<\/p>\n

A colour rarely seen in urushi lacquer work, the rich blue dial features a gradient effect, with almost black tones on the periphery and a more luminous blue in the centre. Created by Credor\u2019s artisans using the ancient art of urushi lacquer, the sticky resin eventually creates a hard, waterproof and silky surface when it dries. To achieve the gradient effect, artisans apply layer after layer of lacquer with varying pigment saturation, leaving each layer to dry. The glossy uniform surface is achieved with whetstone polishing.<\/p>\n

A second artisanal technique, known as taka maki-e (a variant of the traditional maki-e technique of sprinkling gold powder into wet lacquer to create designs), is used to create the raised indices and inscriptions on the dial. However, instead of gold or silver powder, the three-dimensional appliqu\u00e9s on the dial are coated with platinum powder. Protected by a box-shaped sapphire crystal, the gentle curve of the dial is echoed by the minutes hand, whose curved tip reaches the perimeter.<\/p>\n

The Goldfeather GBBY967\u00a0is powered by calibre 6890, an ultra-thin mechanical movement measuring just 1.98mm thick. Beating at 21,600 vph, the power reserve is modest at 37 hours.<\/p>\n
