\n East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) have issued an apology after a team of midwives were fined for parking in a car park which they had been using for years.\n<\/p>\n
\n In a statement, the Royal College of Midwives stated the staff from Ipswich Hospital were ‘worried and stressed’ during the ordeal.\n<\/p>\n
\n Midwives from Ipswich Hospital told this paper that they were encouraged to use the car park during night shifts but were subsequently fined and saw their appeals rejected by the car park provider.\n<\/p>\n
\n However, the NHS trust have stated the issue came after a new provider took over the car park but were not told the midwives were exempt.\n<\/p>\n

\n Doug Ward, ESNEFT’s Director of Estates and Facilities, said: “Our maternity staff at Ipswich Hospital including midwives have been able to park in the nearest car park to the tower block when working a night shift for many years. The car park is needed for patients and visitors during the day.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We are very sorry that due to an oversight this information about overnight staff parking was not given to the new car parking provider.\n<\/p>\n
\n “This meant that staff colleagues who had parked overnight received parking fines. This was quickly addressed and all colleagues have been reimbursed.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Kara Morley-Slater, Regional Officer for the East of England at the Royal College of Midwives, said: “Our members came to us worried and stressed about fines they had received through no fault of their own and we took it straight to the trust.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We are really pleased that they acted immediately to cancel the fines – this is exactly the kind of swift, fair response our members deserve.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Midwives work through the night caring for women and babies and the last thing they need is that kind of financial worry hanging over them.
