Hard-pressed motorists in Donegal are facing another 30 cent hike on the price of a litre of petrol and diesel \u2013 because of where they live.<\/p>\n
The spiralling cost of US President Donald Trump\u2019s war in Iran means that fuel prices are already well above \u20ac2 a litre.<\/p>\n
And now the cost of filling a tank for motorists from Buncrana to Bundoran could cost even more.<\/p>\n
The problem is the cost of delivering both petrol and diesel from depots in Dublin once it arrives in the country from overseas.<\/p>\n
Hauliers are being hit hardest in the pocket.<\/p>\n
Now the cost of traveling all the way to remote Donegal is forcing them to come up with ways of keeping their costs down.<\/p>\n
Haulier Philip Devanne said he is trying his best but delivering fuel to Donegal is costing him a fortune.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not too bad as I have a caravan in Downings and I stay up in Donegal when I deliver so I get a holiday out of it too.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s only a matter of time before the cost of chocolate goes up and there\u2019ll be a shortage of Easter eggs in the shops in Donegal then.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s going to happen if we have a good summer because there\u2019s no way they\u2019ll be able to deliver sun cream then.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, local campaigner Dezel Price said Donegal motorists need to start thinking more about using their cars less.<\/p>\n
She said \u201cI know it\u2019s a long walk for people living in places such as Gaoth Dobhair or Donegal Town who might have a hospital appointment in Letterkenny but they need to consider walking.<\/p>\n
\u201cDonegal people have always been treated like second-class citizens so we need to show the Government that a 30 kilometre walk isn\u2019t an issue for us.\u201d<\/p>\n
It is believed the new price increase for some Donegal motorists could come in as soon as later today, April 1st.<\/p>\n
