A spell of unsettled and possibly stormy weather is set to hit the country over the Easter weekend, with Met \u00c9ireann warning of potentially damaging gales and coastal flooding.<\/p>\n
In an advisory issued this afternoon, the forecaster said a “mobile Atlantic flow” will affect Ireland, bringing stormy weather to some areas on Saturday, with the potential for some severe or damaging west to southwest gusts.<\/p>\n
It said that strong onshore winds, combined with high waves, may lead to wave overtopping and flooding in low-lying and exposed coastal areas.<\/p>\n
Areas along the west and north coasts may be particularly vulnerable.<\/p>\n
High astronomical tides (Spring Tides) coinciding with storm surge and persistent onshore winds will further increase the risk of coastal flooding, Met \u00c9ireann said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, temperatures are set to drop tonight to around -1 Celsius with some frost and ice likely.<\/p>\n
Tomorrow will see outbreaks of rain and drizzle moving into west and southwest counties, before later pushing into rest of the country, accompanied by freshening southwest winds.<\/p>\n
