LeAnn Rimes<\/a> is used to releasing emotional music \u2212 but now she’s seen getting emotional herself in a viral video where she releases tension in her jaw<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the video posted on Instagram<\/a>, which has 2.8 million views, Rimes, 43, is seen breaking down after someone in gloves performs what the caption describes as a “deep jaw release.”<\/p>\n

“You can see the exact moment the tension breaks and the emotional weight lifts,” the caption continues, in part.<\/p>\n

Emotional stress often goes hand in hand with physical concerns like muscle tension, headaches or gastrointestinal upset, explained Jessica Watrous<\/a>, clinical psychologist and chief clinical officer at mental health service platform Modern Health.<\/p>\n

So, while the video might look dramatic, having an emotional reaction after releasing physical tension is natural, said Watrous, who was not involved in Rimes’ treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeer-reviewed clinical research does support a connection between stress and jaw tension,” she added. “When that tension is released, and the jaw relaxes, people may feel calmer, lighter or even tearful and emotional because their body is moving out of a high-arousal state.”<\/p>\n
