PEOPLE in Donegal are being urged to back a Parkinson\u2019s campaign, highlighting the importance of taking your medication on time when living with Parkinson\u2019s Disease.<\/p>\n
Parkinson\u2019s Ireland has launched its \u2018Meds on Time, Every Time\u2019\u00a0campaign ahead of Parkinson\u2019s Awareness Month in April, alongside its nationwide fundraiser, \u2018A Walk in the Park for Parkinson\u2019s\u2019.<\/p>\n
The initiative aims to raise awareness of the critical role medication timing plays in managing Parkinson\u2019s Disease, which affects an estimated 18,000 people in Ireland.<\/p>\n
For those living with the condition, medication timing is vital in controlling symptoms, with the campaign also targeting carers and healthcare professionals through a range of tools and educational resources.<\/p>\n
Ann Foxe, chairperson of the Board of Parkinson\u2019s Ireland and secretary of the northwest branch, Donegal, said: \u201cFor people living with Parkinson\u2019s Disease, timing is everything when it comes to medication. These medications help manage symptoms like stiffness, tremor and reduced mobility, but they need to be taken on schedule to work at their best. Missing doses, even slightly, can disrupt symptom control and increase care needs.\u201d<\/p>\n
As part of the campaign, a local fundraising walk will take place at Bernard McGlinchey Town Park on Saturday, April 11, at 11am, bringing together members of the Parkinson\u2019s community, their families and supporters. The Dovida sponsored event forms part of a nationwide series across 20 locations.<\/p>\n
Parkinson\u2019s Ireland is encouraging the public, healthcare providers and caregivers to support the campaign and take part in the April walk.<\/p>\n
Parkinson\u2019s Disease is an incurable, progressive neurological disorder with more than 40 associated symptoms, which can vary from person to person.<\/p>\n
