Filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow (\u201cZero Dark Thirty,\u201d \u201cPoint Break\u201d) is reportedly considering directing \u201cUnarmed,\u201d a story set at an Armed Forces medical center and penned by Oscar winner Eric Roth and Denis Johnson reports World of Reel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The project follows Amos Searl, a civilian psychiatrist and double amputee starting his career at a military medical facility that treats veterans recovering from severe injuries sustained in recent conflicts. Searl aims to help young service members navigate their return to civilian life.<\/p>\n

Roth originally envisioned the project as a film before scheduling conflicts led him to sell it to HBO back in 2015. At Roth\u2019s recommendation, Johnson penned five \u201cspectacular scripts\u201d based on the work to turn it into a limited series.<\/p>\n

However the project got stuck in development hell and over a decade on is still there at last report. Now, during an interview on Rick Rubin\u2019s Tetragrammaton<\/a> podcast early in March, Roth confirms he is finalle \u2018very close\u2019 to getting the project made.<\/p>\n

He reportedly adds that Bigelow \u201cmight do it\u201d but it\u2019s not clear if this will be a film or TV series incarnation at this point. Roth also confirms he\u2019s currently writing the script for Denis Villeneuve\u2019s planned adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke\u2019s \u201cRendezvous With Rama\u201d.<\/p>\n

Bigelow most recently directed last year\u2019s \u201cA House of Dynamite\u201d.<\/p>\n
