Photo: Rachel McLaughlin<\/p>\n<p>Donegal took centre stage last night at a special celebration premiere of The Three Urns at Century Complex, Letterkenny. <\/p>\n<p>Members of the local cast, crew, and community partners, along with other invited guests, attended the premiere, which honoured the county\u2019s significant role in the making of the heart-warming road trip film.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Filmed entirely in Donegal last spring, The Three Urns draws heavily on the landscape and character of the county, using more than 40 locations across Ramelton, Raphoe, Dunfanaghy, and Buncrana. <\/p>\n<p>Iconic sites such as Glenveagh Castle, Grian\u00e1n of Aileach, Doe Castle, Horn Head, and the ancient Beltany Stone Circle feature prominently, with the filmmakers describing Donegal as not just a setting but \u201can emotional landscape\u201d for the story.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-628649\" class=\"size-large wp-image-628649\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_5650-1024x509.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"509\"  \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-628649\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A packed house for the Donegal premiere of The Three Urns<\/p>\n<p>The film, directed by John-Paul Davidson and Oscar-winner Stephen Warbeck, follows Mr O\u2019Connor (Ciar\u00e1n Hinds) on a journey back to Ireland after the death of his wife. <\/p>\n<p>Along the way, he meets an array of colourful characters, each encounter shaped by the humour, hospitality, and wild beauty of Donegal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe fell in love with the wildness, beauty and sense of isolation that Donegal has,\u201d said writer-directors John-Paul Davidson and Stephen Warbeck ahead of the release.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the attendees last night, Producer Eamon Hughes of Samson Films said: \u201cThis is the first feature film I\u2019ve ever produced, and I was delighted when I got this script. It\u2019s bonkers, it\u2019s mad, it\u2019s kind, and it\u2019s sweet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe two directors were very gentle, and they trusted me with this film. They didn\u2019t really know Ireland, but when I read it, I said, \u2018I know where this needs to go.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been up here to Donegal countless times, scouting and visiting every single location. Domhnall, our location manager, brought us to every nook and cranny, from Portnoo to Annagry, Doe Castle, and Dunfanaghy and just fell in love with the place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-625560\" class=\"size-large wp-image-625560\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Conways-1024x439.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"439\"  \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-625560\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ciar\u00e1n Hinds (Belfast) and Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) in Conway\u2019s Bar Ramelton for \u2018The Three Urns\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Eamon spoke of the warm Donegal welcome and the steadfast support of the Donegal Film Office in bringing projects to life.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cEvery time I come back, I always feel very welcome here. So much so that we have gone and filmed again this February, so I\u2019ll have more stories to show on this big screen next time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I come up here on my own, it can be difficult to get the lay of the land, and that\u2019s why people like Aideen Doherty in the Donegal Film Office are so important. They just open doors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom my perspective as a producer, I\u2019ve filmed across Ireland over the past couple of years and, without a doubt, Donegal has been my favourite place. Donegal is at the very core of The Three Urns, and the pride in the room tonight was palpable.
