A gang of four men and a teenager were chased by gardai earlier today after crashing into two cars in south Dublin.<\/p>\n
The incident happened at the Grange Road in Rathfarnham just after lunchtime, when a car with five occupants who were suspected to be involved in a burglary failed to stop for gardai. After crashing into two cars driven by members of the public, the suspects fled by foot and were chased by gardai and the garda helicopter.<\/p>\n
Four men, one in his 50s and three in their 20s, and a teenage boy were arrested by gardai for a range of offences. The teenager and two of the men were released.<\/p>\n
The three occupants of the cars they crashed into were taken to Tallaght Hospital. Gardai said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.<\/p>\n
A garda spokesman said: “At around 1:40pm on Thursday 2nd April 2026, a car with five occupants failed to stop for Garda\u00ed in the Knocklyon area of Dublin<\/a> 16. The car was subsequently involved in a collision with two cars driven by members of the public at Grange Road, Rathfarnham.<\/p>\n “The five occupants of the car fled on foot and were pursued by Garda\u00ed, with the assistance of the Garda<\/a> Air Support Unit. It was established that the occupants of the car were suspected of involvement in a burglary in Walkinstown, Dublin 12 a short time earlier.<\/p>\n “Five males were subsequently detained at Garda stations in the Dublin Metropolitan Region. Two (one in his 50s and the other a juvenile teenager) were arrested under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. The juvenile has since been released pending further investigations.<\/p>\n “A third male (20s) was arrested on foot of a bench warrant. Two others (aged in their 20s) were detained for the purposes of a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act and subsequently released without charge. All three occupants of the two cars driven by the members of the public were brought to Tallaght<\/a> Hospital for assessment.
