A spokesperson for Taoiseach Miche\u00e1l Martin said there was no \u201cdisagreement on the overall plans\u201d, but that there were a \u201cfew issues raised\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe leaders had largely agreed on the general approach on this a while ago,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Several Government sources admitted that there has been \u201cback and forth\u201d on the proposals.<\/p>\n
The plans were discussed by the Government leaders on Wednesday morning, and it is expected the Cabinet may meet next week to discuss the exempted developments.<\/p>\n
It is also understood that clarity is being sought regarding observations from the attorney general.<\/p>\n
Sources stressed that there will be building regulations applied to ensure the structures are safe and comply with fire regulations.<\/p>\n
It is also understood that independent access to the units will be required, and there can be no separate connection to utilities.<\/p>\n
On his way into Cabinet, T\u00e1naiste Simon Harris said the measure was aimed at \u201ctaking the planner out of your back garden so that we free up planning expertise to work on big projects\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said that the scheme can benefit people seeking to either rent a room or rent out a room.<\/p>\n
He continued: \u201cIf you go further than that, that opens up a wider range of issues around rental protection. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve just passed tenancy protection laws in relation to a six-year tenancy. <\/p>\n
