A 44-year-old man arrested in Dublin in connection with the murder of Robbie Lawlor in Belfast has been remanded in custody facing extradition to Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n
Jonathan Gill was brought to the High Court in Dublin on Friday morning after having been arrested by garda\u00ed on Thursday at an address on Malahide Road, Clontarf, Dublin 3.<\/p>\n
He was detained on foot of an extradition warrant issued to the PSNI by Belfast Magistrates Court on March 31st. <\/p>\n
Lawlor was shot dead on Etna Drive in the Ardoyne area of Belfast on April 4th, 2020. He had been linked to the murder of Co Louth teenager Keane Mulready-Woods, who was dismembered with parts of his body dumped across Dublin in 2020.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed are investigating Lawlor\u2019s murder jointly with the PSNI. <\/p>\n
Evidence of Gill\u2019s arrest was presented by garda\u00ed on Friday before Mr Justice Barry O\u2019Donnell. Gill is entitled to challenge his extradition.<\/p>\n
Det Sgt Frank Lambe, from the extradition unit at the Garda national bureau of criminal investigation, told the High Court on Friday he had arrested Gill, also known as Jack Gill, in Clontarf at 4.50pm on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The officer identified himself and his rank to Gill, who made no reply when cautioned, the court heard.<\/p>\n
Det Sgt Lambe said Gill was taken to Clontarf Garda station where he was shown the warrant for his arrest, endorsed by the High Court in Dublin, and asked him to confirm his name and date of birth.<\/p>\n
He was informed of his right to legal representation, a right to a translator and a right to legal advice in the UK.<\/p>\n
Lambe said a summary of the offences was read to Gill and he was asked if he knew \u201cwhat the offences are about\u201d, \u201cto which he replied \u2018no\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lambe said he was satisfied the person on the warrant was the same person before the High Court on Friday morning, and identified Gill in the courtroom as the man dressed in a black top and shorts.<\/p>\n
Judge Barry O\u2019Donnell said he was \u201cclearly satisfied\u201d as to Gill\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n
Defence barrister Gemma McLoughlin-Burke, instructed by solicitors at Phoenix Law, told the court their intention to reply and said there were legal issues in the alleged offences which she said \u201cmerit\u201d a second barrister.<\/p>\n
It was shown on the face of the warrant that extradition had been sought on the basis he was alleged to have been engaged in a joint criminal enterprise. <\/p>\n
The PSNI believed that Lawlor\u2019s murder had been part of an ongoing drugs feud stemming from the Republic of Ireland with criminal associations in the Dublin, Sligo and Drogheda areas.<\/p>\n
The warrant stated that a number of key personalities involved in the feud had been murdered during the currency of the feud.<\/p>\n
