Coronation Street has confirmed a major slip-up from Maggie Driscoll tonight, in her quest to hide her son Ben’s true paternity<\/a>. In a fiery showdown, Maggie accidentally revealed that her late husband Alan is not Ben’s flesh and blood. Is the cat finally out of the bag?<\/p>\n

Viewers know that Maggie had an affair with the recently deceased Jim McDonald<\/a>, back in the ’80s. While Ben grew up believing Alan was his dad, it was confirmed that he is actually Jim’s biological son<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Maggie has gone to great lengths to keep the information from Ben, even meddling in his friendship with Jim’s son Steve<\/a>. But the latest instalment of the soap saw her blurt out the truth, leaving Ben questioning his entire upbringing. <\/p>\n

In tonight’s episode<\/a>, Maggie cornered her grandson Will and demanded he tell her the truth about his ‘relationship’ with groomer Megan Walsh<\/a>. Will maintained that he simply had a crush on the sports coach and that Megan’s baby<\/a> wasn’t his.<\/p>\n

Though Maggie tried to gently coax him into opening up, she soon became frustrated by his reluctance and branded him “one stupid boy in a long line of stupid boys”. Her outburst was interrupted by Ben and Eva who were horrified by her approach<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The pub landlord told his mum to stay out of things, reminding her that Will was his responsibility. When she accused him of not taking care of his family, he told her the “wrong parent died” and that his dad would be trying to help if he was around.

“You’ve no idea, do you? You never knew Alan. You were a child. You have no idea what kind of man he was, and yet here you are, taking his side over mine. Your own flesh and blood!” fumed Maggie, before realising what she’d said. <\/p>\n

She tried to brush off the revelation, claiming she was “confused” by his cruel words, but Ben questioned exactly what she meant. Later, Ben shared his suspicions with Eva, who suggested Maggie was simply hurt and lashing out. <\/p>\n

“She was making a point, though. She insinuated my dad’s not my biological dad,” said Ben, before he eventually agreed with Eva’s theory. <\/p>\n

However, as the scene ended, it was clear that Ben wasn’t convinced by Maggie’s explanation, and next week’s episodes will see him trying to get answers from his scheming mum<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX<\/a>.<\/p>\n
