{"id":381919,"date":"2026-04-04T16:51:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T16:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/381919\/"},"modified":"2026-04-04T16:51:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T16:51:08","slug":"1400-found-speeding-in-first-48-hours-of-easter-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/381919\/","title":{"rendered":"1,400 found speeding in first 48 hours of Easter weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Garda\u00ed detected over 1,400 drivers speeding in the first 48 hours of the Easter bank holiday weekend.<\/p>\n<p>A garda <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/news\/regional\/2026\/0402\/1566445-easter-weekend-road-safety\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">road safety operation<\/a> has been in operation since 7am on Thursday, 2 April.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, a driver was detected driving 141 km\/h in a 100km\/h zone on the N22 in Killaha, Killarney, Co Kerry.<\/p>\n<p>Another vehicle was spotted driving 115 km\/h in an 80km\/h zone on the R733 in Curraghmore, Co Wexford.<\/p>\n<p>A driver on the N11 Stillorgan Road in Co Dublin, was also caught doing 81 km\/h in a 60km\/h zone.<\/p>\n<p>Garda\u00ed have also arrested 66 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.<\/p>\n<p>A little under 170 people have been detected holding a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt since the safety campaign launched.<\/p>\n<p>So far, there have been no fatalities due to traffic incidents between the start of the operation and this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Garda\u00ed are carrying out mandatory intoxicant testing and regular, high-visibility policing checkpoints, and have urged all road users to support their efforts to keep people safe across the Easter weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The road safety operation will run until 7am on Tuesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Garda\u00ed detected over 1,400 drivers speeding in the first 48 hours of the Easter bank holiday weekend.
