\u2018I saw a picture of me on a porn site\u2019<\/p>\n

In her interview with Raj Shamani, Janhvi shared that her first brush with what she now recognises as a deepfake happened during her school days. \u201cI don\u2019t know if it was a deepfake, but it was something like that. I saw a picture of me on a porn site,\u201d she said.Recalling the moment, she added, \u201cWe had IT class in school and boys used to go on those sites for fun. My pictures were on there. And this was in school. So that was a weird experience.\u201dAt the time, she said she tried to rationalise it. \u201cAt some point, I was like \u2014 this is the cost you have to pay. There is no morality in a lot of these things with social media,\u201d she said, adding that her perspective has since changed.<\/p>\n

\u2018I am not at peace with it\u2019<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the present, the actor admitted she still struggles with the impact of such content. \u201cI am not at peace with it. There are visuals of me out there, even shared by official news pages, which are completely AI. I have never worn those clothes or been photographed like that,\u201d she said.She pointed out how easily such visuals can distort reality. \u201cIt gets circulated as if it\u2019s something I\u2019ve put out. That creates a certain kind of impression,\u201d she added.Janhvi also highlighted how this can affect her work. \u201cIf tomorrow I tell a director I\u2019m not comfortable wearing something, someone can pull up those pictures and say, \u2018But you\u2019ve done this before.\u2019 Even if they don\u2019t say it, it makes you think,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u2018I don\u2019t feel I have that much of a voice\u2019<\/p>\n

Despite her discomfort, Janhvi admitted she often feels hesitant to speak out. \u201cIt upsets me, of course. But I feel like I don\u2019t have that much of a voice to complain,\u201d she said.She added that perceptions around privilege complicate the issue. \u201cThere\u2019s this attitude \u2014 you\u2019ve got so much in life, thoda seh lo, don\u2019t complain. So I don\u2019t think my voice has that credibility yet. There will be backlash, and it might take away from the cause,\u201d she said.However, she stressed that the issue is widespread. \u201cIt\u2019s not just me. I think a lot of others have spoken about it as well,\u201d she noted. <\/p>\n

The actor also addressed the way women, especially public figures, are photographed and consumed. Recalling a recent interaction with paparazzi, she said, \u201cI told them \u2014 it\u2019s invasive, it\u2019s not consensual. Even if we step out dressed a certain way, we\u2019re not expecting someone to zoom into a body part.\u201dShe added, \u201cFor money and views, you\u2019re commodifying a woman\u2019s body against her will. How do you respect yourself doing that?\u201dAt the same time, she acknowledged the larger trend. \u201cSexualised content is the most consumed content globally. That\u2019s why it keeps getting pushed,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

\u2018I can\u2019t afford to stop caring\u2019<\/p>\n

Janhvi concluded by reflecting on how such narratives shape public perception and her career. \u201cThe perception created affects audiences, filmmakers and the kind of opportunities I get,\u201d she said.Calling it \u201cthe tragedy of the human mind,\u201d she added, \u201cIt\u2019s wrong, but it is what it is.\u201dWhile she wishes she could ignore it, she admitted that\u2019s not possible right now. \u201cI wish I could say I don\u2019t care, but it does matter. I\u2019m not in a position of power where I can say that and still get work,\u201d she said.\u201cFor now, I\u2019ll play it safe, do what I have to, till I build that credibility.
