Samsung has a long-standing problem with Android updates. While Pixel owners now expect almost immediate security updates and to be first to new Android innovations, that\u2019s not so for Galaxy users. And worse, there\u2019s now some surprisingly bad news for owners of the company\u2019s latest S26 flagship.<\/p>\n

The monthly Android update circus sees Google issue Android updates with Samsung usually following shortly thereafter. But while most Pixels then receive updates within a few days, rather like Apple\u2019s iPhone users, Samsung users may have to wait until weeks later before they\u2019re updated<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As regards Android feature updates, including Google\u2019s recent security and privacy innovations<\/a>, again these come first to Pixel. This is at its most acute with new versions of Android itself, where Samsung must develop, test and pilot its One UI wrap. The long Android 15 \/ One UI 8 delays were especially concerning.<\/p>\n

Usually it\u2019s the newest flagship that fronts Samsung\u2019s queue for any updates. But not always. SammyFans<\/a> has just confirmed some bad news for owners of the new device. \u201cSamsung skipped a security update for its flagship,\u201d which is \u201cthe first time in a while that Samsung skipped a monthly security update for a flagship phone.\u201d<\/p>\n

What actually happened is that the Galaxy S26 was released with the new One UI 8.5 OS, \u201cbut running the February security patch, and skipped a new firmware update.\u201d There have been two software updates since then. But the February security update remained the most recent on the device. No March fixes.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo cover up,\u201d SammyFans says, \u201cthe company delivered the April 2026 security patch on the first day of this month. Making it the first phone in the S-series to get this update onboard. Though the update is yet to expand for global users, it secures the phone with the latest patches.\u201d So phones caught up, but after a worrying lag.<\/p>\n

At the time of writing, Samsung has yet to detail the April security release. Details will be here<\/a> as and when that comes. That\u2019s the same as for Android itself, with no confirmation yet as to Google\u2019s general update. Those details will be here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hopefully for owners of the $1500-plus flagship, this will be a one-off and we won\u2019t see a missed security update again. But the wider problem of syncing updates between Google and Android OEMs \u2014 especially Samsung<\/a> \u2014 continues.<\/p>\n
