{"id":383747,"date":"2026-04-05T21:40:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T21:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/383747\/"},"modified":"2026-04-05T21:40:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T21:40:08","slug":"sinn-feins-mcgurk-addresses-easter-commemoration-in-dungiven","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/383747\/","title":{"rendered":"Sinn F\u00e9in&#8217;s McGurk addresses Easter commemoration in Dungiven"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sinn F\u00e9in Councillor Kathleen McGurk was the main speaker at the Easter Commemoration in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.derrynow.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Dungiven<\/a> earlier today (Sunday).<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a large crowd, Cllr McGurk said: \u201cIt is a great privilege to address you here today as we honour our Patriot Dead and rededicate ourselves to the 1916 Proclamation. One hundred and ten years ago, ordinary men and women did something extraordinary to break the connection with Britain and establish a 32-county Irish republic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vision set out in the Proclamation; of freedom, equality and economic justice, continues to inspire generations. Today, that vision remains our mission: to reunify our country and build the republic envisioned in 1916.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIreland is changing. The old certainties of partition are gone, and a growing number of people now recognise that the future lies in unity. This is the decade in which the question of Irish unity can be resolved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnity will not happen by accident, it must be won. That means preparation, leadership and determination. Sinn F\u00e9in is leading that work, but others must step up.
