(Image: Niall Carson\/PA Wire)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Sinn F\u00e9in leader Mary Lou McDonald has issued a \u2018direct United Ireland challenge\u2019 to the Taoiseach in her Easter Rising commemoration speech, calling on Mr Martin to &#8220;recognise the immense potential for our country&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Dublin <a aria-label=\"Sinn F\u00e9inLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/sinn-fein\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">Sinn F\u00e9in<\/a> Easter commemoration assembled at the Croppies Acre, Wolfe Tone Quay, at 2pm on Sunday afternoon, parading to Arbour Hill Cemetery where they arrived at around 2:30pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In her speech commemorating the Easter Rising at Arbour Hill, the opposition leader issued a \u2018direct and forceful challenge\u2019 to Fianna F\u00e1il Leader and Taoiseach <a aria-label=\"Miche\u00e1l MartinLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/micheal-martin\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">Miche\u00e1l Martin<\/a> regarding his approach to a United Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">She described the Fianna F\u00e1il-Fine Gael government as \u201cthe biggest barrier today to planning and preparing for Irish Unity\u201d and accused the Taoiseach of a \u201cdereliction of duty\u201d for refusing to advance reunification.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Sinn F\u00e9in leader said: \u201cThe thirtieth anniversary of The Good Friday Agreement is approaching. We have secured the peace. Now is the time to write the next chapter of our national story &#8211; the reunification of Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThis is the decade when Irish unity can be won &#8211; decided by people north and south in referendums. The conversation is underway, but conversation alone is not enough. We need vision, determination, and leadership. We need action.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cInstead, Fianna Fail Leader Miche\u00e1l Martin pushes back. He chooses to stifle, hinder and avoid the most important national conversation of our time. It is telling that today the biggest barrier to preparing and planning for Irish Unity is the Fianna F\u00e1il-Fine Gael government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cMy message to the Taoiseach is direct: You have a responsibility to lead on Irish reunification. To persist with inaction and drift is a dereliction of your duty. It\u2019s not good enough to be a bystander as history unfolds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cPartition should never have been inflicted on Ireland. So, a century of partition is too long. The Taoiseach and the government must recognise the immense potential for our country. Constitutional change and reunification present an historic opportunity for our whole island. The government has a responsibility to plan. To prepare.
