{"id":383932,"date":"2026-04-06T00:42:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T00:42:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/383932\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T00:42:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T00:42:17","slug":"inter-firms-all-ireland-semi-final-date-confirmed-longford-gardai-set-to-play-ulster-champions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/383932\/","title":{"rendered":"Inter-firms All-Ireland semi-final date confirmed: Longford Garda\u00ed set to play Ulster champions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Roscommon Garda &#8211; a team composed of Garda\u00ed from Roscommon, Longford, and Mayo &#8211; will face Armagh&#8217;s MTM Engineering team in the GAA Inter-firms All-Ireland semi-final on Monday April 13.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The clash will kick off at 6.45pm in Drumalee Pitch, Cavan Town and if their previous performance against Mayo team, Vantive, in the Connacht Intermediate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longfordleader.ie\/section\/256\/gaa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">football<\/a> final was any indicator, the semi final looks set to be a high octane meet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/644972069_122123997543112535_7445710855973428065_n-1775338975119.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"754\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Connacht Intermediate football champions. Missing from management photo: Detective Damien McGovern (Longford).\u00a0Pic: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile.php?id=61583376053653\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Inter-firms GAA Connaught<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was followed by scores in quick succession from Roscommon Garda\u2019s Paul Mannion and Tiernan Murphy, leaving Garda six points clear. <\/p>\n<p>The closing minutes saw Vantive put forward a strong attempt to overcome their adversaries, however Roscommon Garda held firm to secure the win, the final score\u00a0Roscommon Garda 3-15, Vantive 3-12. <\/p>\n<p>Scorers from the Roscommon Garda side were\u00a0Gearoid Ennis 0-10 (7f), Paul Mannion 1-2, Tiernan Murphy 2-0, Gary Murphy 0-2, Cathal Slattery 0-1<\/p>\n<p>Team captain, Cathal Slattery, accepted the Intermediate Cup.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/d-1775339023366.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1379\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Captain Cathal Slattery accepting the cup.\u00a0Pic: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile.php?id=61583376053653\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Inter-firms GAA Connaught<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longfordleader.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Longford Leader<\/a> following the win, team coach &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.longfordleader.ie\/news\/local-news\/1733071\/longford-garda-leaves-the-army-for-a-more-community-based-role.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Garda Conor Foley<\/a>, who is stationed in Longford &#8211; said, &#8220;This was our first time entering the Inter-firms competition and the two men who pushed it were Shane O\u2019Connor and David Buckley.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Those lads have put in so much work &#8211; the logistics, liaising with people, and everything else that goes with it, so I was delighted for them, and the lads on the team, that the Intermediate final went so well.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Shane himself is actually a former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longfordleader.ie\/search?q=Longford+Garda&amp;idcanale=12&amp;idcanalericerca=12&amp;sortElement=data_pubblicazione,true&amp;page=1&amp;sortDefault=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Longford Garda<\/a> who is now based in Roscommon and it was his idea to go after this. Himself and David\u00a0got everyone involved which was great because it&#8217;s a very enjoyable outlet for us as Gardai working together.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Conor added, &#8220;We&#8217;re lucky in that we have a really strong team. We also have a couple ex-county players as well, lads like Tom Featherston, Cathal Slattery and our own David Buckley who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longfordleader.ie\/section\/256\/gaa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">hurled<\/a> for Longford.
