{"id":384077,"date":"2026-04-06T03:06:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T03:06:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/384077\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T03:06:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T03:06:15","slug":"ireland-needs-more-bank-holidays-to-align-with-european-average-ogorman-says-homepage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/384077\/","title":{"rendered":"Ireland needs more bank holidays to align with European average, O&#8217;Gorman says &#8211; Homepage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Eva Osborne<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Government needs to introduce more bank holidays to align with the European average.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Green Party leader, Roderic O&#8217;Gorman, is leading the call.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ireland currently has 10 bank holidays every year, behind the European average of 12.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Dublin West TD has suggested a number of options.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Speaking to Newstalk, he said: &#8220;We think it&#8217;s a fair way to recognise the huge contribution of workers to the success of our economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;There&#8217;s a number of options the Government could look at, confirming Good Friday as a bank holiday rather than the public holiday it is right now, where not everybody gets a day off on Good Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;Or, alternatively, they could look at the first weekend of July and create a new summer bank holiday.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Eva Osborne The Government needs to introduce more bank holidays to align with the European average.
