\n George Lockhart, 86, will display his work at Studio 44 Gallery in Boyd Street from Monday, April 6, until Friday, April 10.\n<\/p>\n
\n Originally from Ayr, George is no stranger to Largs, having once owned the former TSB building on Main Street for 20 years.\n<\/p>\n
\n Despite mobility problems caused by back issues, he has rekindled his lifelong passion for painting in later life.\n<\/p>\n
\n Encouraged to study law as a young man, George set aside plans for an artistic career and instead became a lawyer.\n<\/p>\n
\n But since retiring, he has returned to his first love and now describes himself as a modern artist.\n<\/p>\n
\n One of his student paintings was even displayed during a royal visit by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh in the 1950s.\n<\/p>\n
\n After taking up his brushes again around 25 years ago, George studied at Glasgow School of Art and gained an HND in art from the University of the West of Scotland. Since then, he has exhibited his work in Ayr, Irvine and London.\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI really enjoy painting, and in the latter part of my life it has given me a lot of happiness,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI\u2019d like to thank Mandy Risono for organising the Largs exhibition \u2014 she asked if I\u2019d like to take part, and I said yes straight away.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
