The search for a man missing from Mayo <\/a>for five days has been stood down following the discovery of a body, gardai have confirmed.<\/p>\n Padraig Dooley, aged 66, was reported missing <\/a>from Charlestown since Wednesday, April 1.<\/p>\n Gardai <\/a>launched a public appeal shortly after his disappearance, describing Padraig as being 5′ 9″ tall, of strong build with black hair.<\/p>\n Officers confirmed he was last seen on the morning of Wednesday, April 1 in Ballaghaderreen, Roscommon <\/a>wearing a dark coloured fleece, tan trousers, a high visibility vest and black shoes.<\/p>\n They appealed for anyone with information to contact them. At the time, a Garda spokesperson said: “Garda\u00ed are appealing to the public for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of Padraig Dooley (66), who was reported missing from Charlestown, Co. Mayo since Wednesday 1st April 2026.<\/p>\n “Padraig is described as being approximately 5 foot 9 inches in height, of strong build, with black hair.<\/p>\n “Padraig was last seen wearing a dark coloured fleece, tan trousers, a high visibility vest and black shoes on the morning of Wednesday 1st April 2026 in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon.<\/p>\n “Anyone with any information on Padraig\u2019s whereabouts are asked to contact Ballina Garda Station on 096 20560, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station<\/a>.”<\/p>\n In a heartbreaking update tonight, gardai confirmed that the missing persons appeal has been stood down following the discovery of a body. They thanked the public for their help.<\/p>\n A Garda spokesperson said: “Following the discovery of a body, the missing person appeal in respect of Padraig Dooley (66), who was reported missing from Charlestown, Co. Mayo since Wednesday 1st April 2026, has been stood down.<\/p>\n “No further media attention is required.
