<\/p>\nSaharan dust is forecast to reach Ireland at the weekend, with meteorologists warning that rain showers could bring the fine, iron-rich dust down to the surface, creating ‘blood rain’<\/p>\n

Blood rain is expected to descend upon Ireland this weekend – potentially spoiling any intentions you might have for cleaning your vehicles or windows.<\/p>\n
Blood rain is a weather occurrence where precipitation takes on a red or orange hue. It happens when fine, iron-laden particles from the Sahara Desert get swept into the atmosphere and transported vast distances by winds, subsequently combining with rainfall.<\/p>\n
The Saharan particles are due to reach Ireland towards the week’s end – with Sunday appearing to be the most severely impacted day. Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather has cautioned that precipitation and hail showers predicted to strike the nation over the weekend might bring those particles down to ground level.<\/p>\n
Sharing footage of the particles drifting northwards over the country, he stated: “Saharan dust forecast shows the dust is forecast to reach Ireland towards end of week, and some showers could bring some of that dust down to the surface.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Dublin and much of Ireland is experiencing a glorious sunny start to Tuesday as we anticipate wetter conditions developing throughout the week.<\/p>\n

The capital will see temperatures climb to 17C today during what should be a generally pleasant day. Some spells of rainfall are expected intermittently as additional cloud cover arrives, reports Dublin Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n This evening will remain largely dry with reasonably mild conditions as temperatures reach 10C. Mist and fog will develop in certain areas. Met \u00c9ireann stated: “Today will start mostly dry with sunny spells. Cloudier conditions will spread from the west with some showery outbreaks of rain possible. Mild with highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees in moderate, southeast winds, easing mostly light southerly later.<\/p>\n “Tonight will be mostly dry but cloudy overall, with limited clear spells. Areas of mist and fog will form in light variable breezes. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.”<\/p>\n The milder conditions will continue on Wednesday. The day will be largely dry though cloudy, featuring good sunny intervals.<\/p>\n While there may be occasional drizzle, this won’t really develop until evening. Wednesday night will be somewhat cooler with temperatures around 7C.<\/p>\n Met \u00c9ireann added: “Tomorrow, Wednesday will be dry for most with a lot of cloud and some sunny spells. Cloud will build from the west through the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees, in light west or southwesterly breezes.<\/p>\n “Outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the west will move eastwards, with clear spells and scattered showers following on Wednesday night. Turning cooler behind the rain with lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees in moderate westerly winds.”<\/p>\n Conditions will deteriorate by Thursday with downpours becoming intense and possibly thunderous. Hail could also occur. Temperatures will decline. As we approach the weekend, conditions will turn increasingly blustery and unsettled, bringing widespread rainfall and overnight frost.<\/p>\n Thursday<\/p>\n Any remaining showers in the east will clear early. Otherwise, expect sunny intervals and scattered showers, some becoming heavy and potentially thundery with a risk of hail, before gradually easing through the evening. Cooler than recent days with peak temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in fresh and gusty westerly winds, dying down later.<\/p>\n Friday<\/p>\n Expect a blustery and windswept day with fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds. Spells of rain in the west will turn heavy and prolonged at times, before pushing eastwards as the day progresses. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.<\/p>\n Weekend<\/p>\n Current forecasts indicate further rain and hail showers throughout the weekend, though some drier and brighter breaks are also expected.
