On its own, this fact isn\u2019t that noteworthy\u2014Bluesky has <a href=\"https:\/\/gvwire.com\/2026\/02\/09\/bluesky-goes-down-for-thousands-downdetector-reports\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">seen similar service disruptions in the past<\/a>, and this one coincided with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/technology\/google-spotify-more-online-services-recovering-after-apparent-widespread-issue\/ar-AA1GBAfM\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">widespread service problems<\/a> being reported with other popular sites (Bluesky <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/status.bsky.app\/post\/3mits76o4pk2b\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">officially<\/a> blamed the temporary problems on an \u201cupstream service provider\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>What made this outage notable for many Bluesky users, though, was the instant assumption that it was the result of sloppy, AI-assisted \u201cvibe coding\u201d by the Bluesky development team.<\/p>\n<p>Amid Monday\u2019s service issues, many Bluesky feeds were <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/alraven.bsky.social\/post\/3mitjgqaqys2r\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">filled<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/melfluff.bsky.social\/post\/3mitxkwgsn22s\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hundreds<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/tommothecabbit.bsky.social\/post\/3mitlm6ribs2i\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">posts<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/cargie.baby\/post\/3mith72brks2k\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">laid the blame<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/korybing.bsky.social\/post\/3mitzxa4b5c27\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">developers<\/a> who were <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/metalheadronin.bsky.social\/post\/3mitnvgvd6s2r\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">allegedly relying on unreliable AI tools<\/a> to ship faulty code. Some <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/trannieoakley.meangirls.online\/post\/3mitpzykpls2f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">used memes<\/a>, others <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/idolizedpat.bsky.social\/post\/3mitxp44v322f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">used alt text<\/a>, still others used <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/tranniehathaway.bsky.social\/post\/3mitkbbokf226\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">irony<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/lexluddy.xyz\/post\/3mithvyvphs26\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wry humor<\/a> to call out Bluesky\u2019s development team for this alleged sloppiness.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, though, the mood among these vibe-code blamers was one of righteous anger. \u201cAny developer or programmer using \u2018vibe-coding\u2019 or any reliance on AI to code things is clearly too stupid to know how to do the job they\u2019re paid to do and should be fired out of a cannon,\u201d Bluesky user T-Kay <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/ttothekay.bsky.social\/post\/3mitt2fc57s2y\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a>, summing up the, er, vibe. \u201cCoding takes skill, not slop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\">bluesky employees: we are vibe coding the entire website using only AI now<\/p>\n<p>yeah dude, i can tell<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:vw4sfkfvggi2a3mbfm2xgh52\/post\/3mithvyvphs26?ref_src=embed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">[image or embed]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 lex luddy (ichiban appreciator) (<a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:vw4sfkfvggi2a3mbfm2xgh52?ref_src=embed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">@lexluddy.xyz<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:vw4sfkfvggi2a3mbfm2xgh52\/post\/3mithvyvphs26?ref_src=embed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 6, 2026 at 10:29 AM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the kind of reaction that highlights just how many tech users are still reflexively repulsed by the idea that AI tools were used in any way to create the products they use. Even as professional coders are becoming <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/ai\/2026\/01\/developers-say-ai-coding-tools-work-and-thats-precisely-what-worries-them\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">increasingly enthusiastic<\/a> about <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/information-technology\/2026\/01\/10-things-i-learned-from-burning-myself-out-with-ai-coding-agents\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the power of AI coding tools<\/a>, many end users still see them as a boogeyman to instantly blame for any and all observed ills in the tech industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThings are changing. Fast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before yesterday\u2019s outage, many on the Bluesky development team faced social media backlash for admitting they used AI tools in their work. Bluesky founder and Chief Innovation Officer Jay Graber <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/jay.bsky.team\/post\/3micqcyeawc2g\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">posted point-blank in late March<\/a> that \u201cBluesky is made with AI, the engineers and even some non-engineers use Claude Code,\u201d for instance. And Bluesky Technical Advisor Jeromy Johnson (who goes by the handle \u201cWhy\u201d on the site) has been an outspoken proponent of AI coding tools, saying <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/why.bsky.team\/post\/3meomclcfss2w\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in February<\/a> that \u201cIn the past two months Claude has written about 99% of my code.
