{"id":387150,"date":"2026-04-07T23:34:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T23:34:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/387150\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T23:34:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T23:34:08","slug":"disruption-from-nationwide-fuel-protests-continues-into-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/387150\/","title":{"rendered":"Disruption from nationwide fuel protests continues into night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Disruption from a protest against rising fuel prices has continued into the night across Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday morning, demonstrators driving tractors, lorries and trucks formed slow-moving convoys in a number of counties.<\/p>\n<p>Several of the convoys converged on Dublin city centre and a rally was held on O\u2019Connell Street at 3pm.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the event one of the organisers, James Geoghegan, said 28 different protests had taken place across the country.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1775600708735_1.jpg--.jpg\" width=\"640\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A large number of the vehicles remained in the city centre on Tuesday night and Gardai said the protest was having a \u201csignificant impact\u201d on traffic, including on the north and south quays.<\/p>\n<p>Other routes around the city were also impacted including the Naas road, the Red Cow Interchange and sections of the M50, they said.<\/p>\n<p>Gardai also said there were slow-moving convoys and significant traffic delays reported on the M8 in County Tipperary and on the M18 in County Clare.<\/p>\n<p>Public transport was also affected in Dublin, from around 8pm the green Luas line was suspended in the city centre.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on social media site X the tram operator said this was a result of \u201ca protest march blocking the tracks at O\u2019Connell Bridge\u201d.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Green line trams are currently not operating between Beechwood and Dominic due to a protest march blocking the tracks at O&#8217;Connell Bridge.
