According to market researcher IDC India, out of the total 15.2 crore smartphones sold in the country last year, Vivo, Samsung, and Oppo had a 47% share. These companies have made major changes to their portfolios.<\/p>\n
Samsung: The company has now launched its mid-range phone Galaxy A56 (\u20b947,999) as A57, priced at \u20b962,499. This is approximately 30% more expensive. Similarly, the price of A37 has also increased by 36%.Vivo: The company has increased the price of its budget smartphone Vivo T4 Lite directly from \u20b99,999 to \u20b913,999. This is an increase of approximately 40%.Oppo: Oppo has increased the prices of its 5 models by a flat \u20b92,000. This includes models from the budget phone A6x to the premium A6 Pro.<\/p>\n

Chip Shortage: Due to the increasing demand for AI technology, chip manufacturing companies like NVIDIA are focusing their entire attention on AI memory chips. According to Counterpoint India, smartphone memory chip prices have increased by up to 120% between December and February.Middle-East War: The ongoing war between America and Iran is affecting global supply. Due to this, prices of raw materials like plastic have increased, which are used in making phone bodies. Additionally, packaging materials have also become expensive.<\/p>\n

According to the All India Mobile Retailers Association, mobile companies have made it clear to shopkeepers through emails that these increased prices are now permanent. Retailers say they have received indications of further price increases in the next few months.<\/p>\n
