Will he be able to survive?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Botswana\u2019s Okavango Delta, a team of wildlife filmmakers have been tracking a group of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/big-cat-vs-small-cat-whats-the-difference\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">big cats<\/a> for the BBC TV series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/tv\/when-is-big-cats-24-7-on-tv\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Big Cats 24\/7<\/a> \u2013 and there\u2019s one animal who has defied all odds.<\/p>\n<p>Malome, meaning \u2018uncle\u2019, was named because of his unusual relationship with the Xudum Pride; one of the biggest lion prides in the world.<\/p>\n<p>He exists on the fringes of the pride, remaining unchallenged by the pride males Madumo and Big Toe.<\/p>\n<p>And as wildlife filmmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/people\/who-is-gordon-buchanan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gordon Buchanan<\/a> tracks Malome, he says, \u201cHe is in hot pursuit. Well, as hot as his pursuit can get. Look at that leg. That is never going to heal. That is such a severe injury.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Big Cats 24\/7 narrator Adetomiwa Edun explains that because of the injury, \u201cMalome has survived losing the ability to run, usually essential for life in the African savannah.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But instead of struggling, Malome has adapted his hunting techniques in an astonishing turn of events.<\/p>\n<p>Top image: a close up of a lion in Botswana.
