Ulster have announced the signing of Irish-qualified out-half Jamie Benson from Harlequins on a two-year deal ahead of next season.<\/p>\n
The 23-year-old, who can play at fly-half, centre and full-back, will join the province in the summer.<\/p>\n
Benson came through Quins’ academy system and on his senior debut kicked a last-minute conversion to defeat Northampton Saints in the Premiership Cup in November 2021.<\/p>\n
He made his Premiership debut for the club in November 2024.<\/p>\n
This season, he scored his first try in the Investec Champions Cup, in a 68-14 pool-stage victory over Bayonne.<\/p>\n
Irish-qualified through family connections in Belfast, Benson has also represented both England Under-18s and England U20s as well being selected in a wider England ‘A’ squad, earlier this season.<\/p>\n
“We are delighted to be signing a player of Jamie’s quality as we build our squad ahead of next season,” said Ulster general manager Rory Best.<\/p>\n
“He has shown a lot of potential for Harlequins, performing well when given the opportunity and making an impact at Prem level and in the Champions Cup.<\/p>\n
“Jamie brings quality and competition to our fly-half depth, and has that added strength of bringing versatility to the backline at inside centre or full-back.<\/p>\n
“At 23 years old, he joins us with his best years ahead of him and we can’t wait to welcome him to Ulster this summer.”<\/p>\n
