The accident occurred in Castletownroche on Monday, April 6, at 12.50pm and the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
His body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination took place.<\/p>\n
The heartbroken family of Michael O\u2019Regan have expressed their heartfelt thanks to all who assisted at the scene and to those who stopped to help.<\/p>\n
In the death notice on RIP.ie the family extended their sincere thanks to An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na, especially Garda Aoife McCarthy, the fire brigade, especially Jonathan Madden, the Air Ambulance Response Unit and paramedics for their care, professionalism and compassion.<\/p>\n
The family also thanked Fr Gerard Condon for his support and prayers, and they expressed their appreciation to the Lenihan family for their exceptional kindness in facilitating access, and for providing refreshments and comfort at such a difficult time.<\/p>\n
Mr O\u2019Regan is survived by his children Jack and Lynn, brothers Eamonn, Declan, Brendan and Don, sisters Eleanor, Marion and Annette, sisters in law Serena, Siobh\u00e1n and Janine, brothers in law Cameron, Mark and Andrew, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and countless friends.<\/p>\n
He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Ann O\u2019Regan and brother-in-law of the late Maura.<\/p>\n
The death notice also stated that the funeral arrangements for Michael will be announced in due course.<\/p>\n
A very poignant tribute to Mike \u2018The \u2018Fig\u2019 O\u2019Regan was posted online by Hannah Griffin\u2019s Bar in Skenakilla. \u201cThe community is lost for words. Fig was more than a customer; he was a friend. Always helping out, always showing up, always bringing the banter and the craic wherever he went. Backbone to every event. Soft soul and a big heart, that was the Fig.\u201d<\/p>\n
The emotional message said the late Michael O\u2019Regan was always chatting to everyone at the counter and he kept the show going. \u201cFrom vintage days to busy weekends at the bar, he was always coming up with ideas. He was part of so many special moments here.\u201d<\/p>\n
The owners said the place won\u2019t be the same without him. \u201cA big cog in the wheel is gone with him. The kind of man everyone had time for, and everyone loved very much. We will miss that cheeky smile and brown eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n
The online message from the public house concluded: \u201cSending all our love to his family, Ross his beloved dog, staff and many friends at this incredibly difficult time. Rest easy Fig.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fianna F\u00e1il councillor Nelius Cotter also paid tribute to the late Michael O\u2019Regan. \u201cIt is very tragic and a very sad loss. He was very well known across North Cork. He was a very likeable guy, and it is very regrettable.\u201d<\/p>\n
A technical examination of the scene was carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and garda\u00ed are appealing for witnesses of the single-vehicle crash in Castletownroche.<\/p>\n
Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage and were travelling in the area between 12:30pm and 1pm on Monday, April 6, 2026, are asked to make this available to investigating garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n
