Jamie Carragher believes that too many of Liverpool’s players lack the humility out of possession, which was a hallmark of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds teams.<\/p>\n
Liverpool<\/a>‘s level has dropped off dramatically this season from the one the team showed last season, as Arne Slot won the Premier League during his first season in charge.<\/p>\n As a result of Liverpool’s poor season, some fans have suggested that Slot<\/a> \u2013 during his first season in charge \u2013 actually benefitted from working with a group of players that was drilled by Klopp, and that this campaign has seen the effect of the Dutchman putting his imprint on the squad<\/a>.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Mohamed Salah PSG transfer blocked by Luis Enrique in 2023 as report reveals details<\/a>READ MORE: Ex-Liverpool boss believes Michael Olise is ‘up there’ with Steven Gerrard<\/a><\/p>\n That is perhaps a bit reductive, but Carragher does feel as though the Reds do not work hard enough on the ball to be a successful team.<\/p>\n Carragher compared Liverpool to the PSG team that has become known for its intense off-the-ball work \u2014 after the French team was known for indulging superstars who did not work hard enough when out of possession.<\/p>\n PSG offloaded Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe in recent years, as manager Luis Enrique ditched the club’s superstar approach to new signings, and the change reaped dividends, as PSG won the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history last season.<\/p>\n “We’ve been very critical of PSG in the past, about the team that they had, and how they went about things,” Carragher said.<\/p>\n Carragher had some harsh words for Liverpool before the PSG clash(Image: AFP or licensors)<\/p>\n “I always said they could never win the CL with Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar, and the reason being is: I think for a great team or a great player, to win the biggest things, more often than not, you’ve got to be arrogant on the ball and humble off it.<\/p>\n “That’s always something you would describe Liverpool as under Jurgen Klopp. Great players, fantastic players, fantastic talent, but work their socks off off the ball.<\/p>\n “Right now this is being flipped. PSG now \u2013 and no one personifies this more than the Ballon d’Or winner Dembele \u2014 who is arrogant off the ball and humble off it, doesn’t stop running for his team.<\/p>\n “And right now you look at the players there (at Liverpool), like Ekitike, Wirtz, Isak when he’s played, Salah as well.
