\n\t\u201cBeef<\/a>\u201d creator Lee Sung Jin<\/a> didn\u2019t think twice before agreeing to work on the latest script for the upcoming \u201cX-Men<\/a>\u201d reboot.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cNo matter how much you got going on, you have to say yes,\u201d he told me Wednesday night at the Season 2 premiere of \u201cBeef\u201d in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

\n\tJake Schreier, who has been tapped to reboot\u00a0\u201cX-Men\u201d\u00a0for the MCU, recently\u00a0told Collider<\/a>\u00a0that Lee and Joanna Calo, \u201cThe Bear\u201d co-showrunner and \u201cBeef\u201d creative, were taking a pass on the latest draft of the upcoming superhero adventure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI have fond memories of my father and I waking up Saturday mornings watching the \u2018X-Men\u2019 cartoon and reading the comics,\u201d Lee said.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe said one of his favorite mutants is Gambit. \u201cI love Jubilee,\u201d Lee said. \u201cYou know, everyone goes to Cyclops, Wolverine, but for me growing up, I always loved the kind of supporting members. But this is super early. None of this means that anything is going on. This is more just to say that I\u2019m a big, big fan of the comics and I\u2019m just very honored to have a small part in it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cX-Men\u201d marks an MCU reunion for Schreier, Lee and Calo after last year\u2019s \u201cThunderbolts*.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJake Schreier, a \u201cBeef\u201d executive producer and director, was nervous about saying too much \u2013 he wouldn\u2019t even name his favorite mutant \u2013 but he did talk about working with Lee and Calo again. \u201cI\u2019ve worked with Sonny [Lee] and Joanna on so many things,\u201d he said. \u201cAnytime you can work with people that you care so deeply about and who are so talented at their craft, and you have made something together where you have a shorthand, if you can keep going with that, it always seems like a good thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBeef\u201d Season 2 sees an entirely new cast and storyline led by Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac as a couple whose marriage is falling apart.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was exponentially more work for some reason,\u201d Lee said of Season 2. \u201cI think we have more prospective characters, less time to develop it, trying to raise the bar, sophomore album, you know, trying to do something different. It just took a lot of blood, sweat and tears from everybody, but I\u2019m excited that it\u2019s finally out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe final cuts of the episodes were delivered just last week. \u201cEveryone was very mad at me,\u201d Lee said, smiling. \u201cI think if it weren\u2019t for deadlines, I don\u2019t know that the show would ever even be seen because we\u2019re always tinkering, we\u2019re always trying to make it better.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMulligan and Isaac\u2019s characters\u2019 fights and arguments are harsh, with the two of them hurling very mean things at each other.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJust drink a lot, edibles, all sorts of edibles,\u201d Issac joked when asked about not taking the meanness home at the end of a day of shooting. \u201cTake a hit of bufo and just chill out.\u201d Mulligan added, \u201cThere is a catharsis to smashing up a trophy cabinet. I will say I didn\u2019t mind it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBeef\u201d Season 2 premieres on Netflix on April 16.<\/p>\n
