According to Pew, <\/a>half of Americans say it is at least somewhat difficult to judge if health information is accurate. Most of those polled said they prefer to gather health advice from a provider, such as a family practice physician, or from a person who has had a similar health condition. Overall, 85% of the more than 5,000 adults polled said they get health advice from a provider, and 95% of those find the advice or extremely or somewhat accurate.\u00a0<\/p>\nTwo-thirds said they seek health advice from a person who has a similar health issue as them, and 86% of those find the advice extremely or somewhat accurate. Overall, 75% of Americans say it\u2019s highly important that their health information sources have medical training, and 72% said their health advice must be easy to understand.\u00a0<\/p>\n
About 60% of those polled say they also use major medical organization websites, like the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, or WebMD for health advice. Older people especially trust those established institutions for medical advice, and overall, 90% of those who use the websites find them extremely or somewhat accurate.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Having health insurance plays a major role in accessing health advice, with the uninsured more likely to use digital media for health advice.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople without coverage are more likely than those with coverage to turn to social media and AI chatbots, although at much lower rates overall,\u201d Pew said. Half of social media users (51%) said the information was accurate, and 76% of AI users said the information was accurate.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Ohio State Wexner poll shows declining trust in AI, with the 1,000 poll respondents saying their belief that AI can make some health processes more efficient falling from 64% in 2024 to 55% in 2025.<\/p>\n

Just over half, or 51% of poll respondents, said they use AI to make medical decisions. Among those who use AI, 62% said they use it to help understand symptoms before deciding whether to seek medical care, 44% use AI to help explain test results or a medical diagnosis, 25% use it to compare treatment options or help make a treatment decision, and 20% use AI to prepare for an upcoming medical appointment.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople are learning that there are pros and cons of artificial intelligence, where it has actual use and where it really doesn’t have a place,\u201d said Tripathi.\u00a0<\/p>\n
