But every little bit counts,\u201d Lisa Young, a registered dietitian in New York, tells TODAY.com.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-d64c36\" class=\"body-graf\">Zinc is very important for immune function, she notes, helping fight off bacteria and viruses. It also helps control infections by moderating the immune response and preventing inflammation that can be \u201cdamaging and even deadly,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/nutrition\/articles\/10.3389\/fnut.2024.1385591\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">studies<\/a> have found.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-ed9b54\" class=\"body-graf\">Zinc is involved with wound healing, taste perception and metabolism, helping to break down carbs.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-dd39c1\" class=\"body-graf\">Men need 11 milligrams of zinc every day, while women need 8 milligrams, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ods.od.nih.gov\/factsheets\/Zinc-Consumer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">National Institutes of Health<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-83dba2\" class=\"body-graf\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/diet-fitness\/zinc-foods-rcna205076\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Foods high in zinc<\/a> include oysters, meat, fish, poultry, seafood and fortified breakfast cereals.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-b0fda8\" class=\"body-graf\">Beans, nuts, whole grains, eggs, and dairy products also provide some zinc \u2014 but at the same time, beans and grains contain a naturally occurring compound that reduces how much of the nutrient the body absorbs.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-5da694\" class=\"body-graf\">People who eat vegetarian or vegan diets may have trouble getting enough zinc, the NIH notes. So can pregnant and breastfeeding women who need more of the nutrient.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-d467ac\" class=\"body-graf\">Fruits contain zinc in small amounts, less than 1 milligram per serving, but they can be a tasty complement to other sources, says Young, author of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Finally-Full-Slim-Permanent-Portion\/dp\/1478993006\/?tag=nb013-book-20&amp;asc_campaign=&amp;asc_refurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.today.com%2Fhealth%2Fdiet-fitness%2Fbest-time-of-day-to-eat-fiber-rcna266072&amp;asc_source=direct_desktop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Finally Full, Finally Slim<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-89f977\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cPeople think zinc is really just going to be found in meat and seafood, but if you have a yogurt with some nuts and raspberries, you will get some zinc as well,\u201d she notes.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-e46c55\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cWhen you pair fruit with something that is noted to be higher in zinc, then you could round out a meal or a snack and get more zinc than you think.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/kiwi-mc-240925-45b526.jpg\" alt=\"Kiwi fruit\" height=\"1668\" width=\"2500\"\/>Kiwi is among fruits that provide a bit of zinc.Westend61 \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-b7c5f0\" class=\"body-graf\">Here are the fruits that contain the most zinc:<\/p>\n<p>Blackberries1 cup of blackberries, 0.7 milligrams of zinc<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-ce0fee\" class=\"body-graf\">Low in calories and carbs, but high in fiber and nutrients, blackberries signal powerful health benefits with their dark color. That rich pigment comes from anthocyanins, bioactive compounds in plants that act as antioxidants.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-e9f275\" class=\"body-graf\">Blackberries make the list of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/diet-fitness\/fruits-anti-inflammatory-benefits-rcna263388\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">best anti-inflammatory fruits<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/diet-fitness\/fruits-with-high-protein-rcna187692\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">fruits with the most protein<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Cantaloupe1 cup of cantaloupe, 0.7 milligrams of zinc<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-b044fd\" class=\"body-graf\">This breakfast favorite is high in beta carotene, an orange pigment that\u2019s also an antioxidant, so it makes the list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/diet-fitness\/fruits-with-high-vitamin-a-rcna210331\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">fruits with the most vitamin A<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-219157\" class=\"body-graf\">Cantaloupe also contains lutein and zeaxanthin, nutrients that support healthy vision.<\/p>\n<p>Pomegranate1 cup of pomegranate arils, 0.6 milligrams of zinc<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-83d09f\" class=\"body-graf\">The arils, or gem-like seeds inside a pomegranate, provide dietary fiber, fatty acids and essential vitamins and minerals.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-5cd0b7\" class=\"body-graf\">Dietitians recommend using them like berries to top Greek yogurt, cottage cheese or salads.<\/p>\n<p>Raspberries1 cup of raspberries, 0.5 milligrams of zinc<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-738943\" class=\"body-graf\">Raspberries are perfect on their own, with oatmeal or as a snack to meet your daily fiber needs \u2014 they\u2019re the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/diet-fitness\/fruit-highest-in-fiber-dietitian-tip-rcna262099\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">highest whole-food source of fiber<\/a>, dietitians say.
