\n\tScarlett Johansson<\/a>, Sam Rockwell and Tom Waits have joined Brad Bird<\/a>\u2018s \u201cRay Gunn<\/a>\u201d voice cast.<\/p>\n

\n\tJohansson, Rockwell and Waits will join voice actor John Ratzenberger in the Skydance Animation feature.<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to the logline, \u201cRay Gunn\u201d is set in Metropia, a gigantic city in an alternate future as seen from 1939, where private eye Raymond Gunn is drawn into a case involving aliens, murder and a multimedia star named Venus Nova.<\/p>\n

\n\tJohansson who voices Nova said, \u201c\u201cHaving the opportunity to collaborate with Brad Bird is a career milestone for me; I have loved his work my entire life. This project is so uniquely special because it is a total realization of where Brad is currently on his artistic journey. I can\u2019t wait for audiences to see this extraordinary animation that looks like nothing else out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBird is on board as producer, writer and director. He helmed 2004\u2019s \u201cThe Incredibles\u201d and 2018\u2019s \u201cIncredibles 2,\u201d and this marks his first film since 2018. Bird is also suiting up again to write and produce \u201cIncredibles 3\u201d slated for release in 2028. He said, \u201c\u2018Ray Gunn\u2019 has been in my mind for over 30 years. \u00a0The film is a blend of sci-fi and classic detective movies from the \u201940s\u2026it\u2019s Maltese Falcon meets Buck Rogers. \u00a0I\u2019ve been a fan of both of those sort of genres, and blending them together seemed fun, and a chance to play with a lot of very cinematic elements, and extreme characters.\u201d He added, \u201cThere\u2019s a big chunk of people who don\u2019t watch animation. That\u2019s a group I\u2019m anxious to persuade because it\u2019s an amazing art form that is way too limited in people\u2019s minds. Animation as a medium is too interesting to limit what kind of stories can be told.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSkydance Animation\u2019s John Lasseter, David Ellison and Dana Goldberg are set to produce the film which will be released by Netflix later this year. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2023, Skydance Animation struck a deal to exclusively release its animated movies directly to Netflix in an arrangement that spans multiple years.<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this year, Netflix won the animated feature Oscar for \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d which became its most-watched movie of 2025.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlso on its animation slate are the upcoming \u201cSteps,\u201d featuring Amanda Seyfried as the voice of Cinderella<\/a>, and \u201cSwapped,\u201d abuddy comedy about a small woodland creature (voiced\u00a0by\u00a0Michael\u00a0B.\u00a0Jordan) and a majestic\u00a0bird (voiced\u00a0by Juno Temple).<\/p>\n

\n\tJohansson was the recipient of Variety\u2019s\u00a0Legends and Groundbreakers<\/a>\u00a0Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival in 2025. She worked her way up to being the industry\u2019s top-paid female star, locking in (and later fighting to be fairly compensated for) that title as Marvel\u2019s Black Widow character. <\/p>\n

\n\tLast year, she appeared in \u00a0\u201cJurassic World: Rebirth\u201d and she brought her feature directing debut \u201cEleanor the Great<\/a>\u201d to Cannes. Next up, she\u2019s set to appear in the \u201cExorcist\u201d movie<\/a> for Universal and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.\u00a0<\/p>\n
