{"id":390211,"date":"2026-04-09T17:37:06","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T17:37:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/390211\/"},"modified":"2026-04-09T17:37:06","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T17:37:06","slug":"gofundme-for-fuel-protesters-raises-e10k-in-3-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/390211\/","title":{"rendered":"GoFundMe for fuel protesters raises \u20ac10K in 3 hours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A GoFundMe<a href=\"https:\/\/gofund.me\/b713c8a18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> support page<\/a> launched by popular internet personality and commentator Michael McCarthy has raised \u20ac10,000 in the first three hours since its launch.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy, who has 1,000,000 followers on Instagram as well as 165,000 on X, launched the campaign in order to help keep the fuel protesters around the country fed as the government refuses to negotiate with those who are not part of representative groups.<\/p>\n<p>An initial target of \u20ac3,000 was reached within an hour of launching the campaign, McCarthy said in a social media post, adding that money was no longer the issue and calling on those involved in food preparation to provide refreshments for the protesters, as \u201cmorale is low\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere\u2019s the reality: if fuel costs \u20ac1, the government adds \u20ac1.20 on top of that in taxes.
