Olivia Munn<\/a> is opening up about her experience with a male actor who felt uncomfortable with a film\u2019s seemingly feminist slant. <\/p>\n

Appearing on \u201cThe Drew Barrymore Show<\/a>\u201d this week, the \u201cX-Men: Apocalypse\u201d actor said she\u2019d pledged long ago to focus on film and TV projects featuring female characters who weren\u2019t reliant on their male counterparts. <\/p>\n

One such project, Munn said, required her to appear alongside a male co-star who objected to a scene in which his character\u2019s life would be spared, thanks to Munn\u2019s character\u2019s aid. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf you read the script, it was that he was guarding his side, I was guarding my side, then we switch sides and then there\u2019s a guy that was coming for him \u2014 he was gonna shoot him in the back \u2014 so I shoot him,\u201d she recalled. \u201cAnd then we\u2019re about to shoot, and somehow, I guess he didn\u2019t read the script, and in that moment, he realized, \u2018Wait, wait, wait. Hold on. She can\u2019t save me. No, no. She can\u2019t save me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Though Munn did not identify the co-star by name, she described his subsequent on-set behavior as \u201cobnoxious,\u201d noting that he quickly grew \u201ccombative with the director.\u201d After the actor delayed the shoot for about 45 minutes, Munn decided to reframe the specifics of the scene to meet her co-star\u2019s approval. <\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018OK, how about instead of my character saving you, it\u2019s just that we switch because it\u2019s time for us to switch and so this is my guy to get,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cAnd he was like, \u2018OK.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She went on to note: \u201cNow here\u2019s the interesting thing: Nothing changed. It\u2019s just what he thought. I was doing the exact same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Munn, who is married to actor-comedian John Mulaney<\/a>, has been outspoken about having endured less-than-optimal treatment on Hollywood sets for some time. <\/p>\n

Appearing on Dax Shepard\u2019s \u201cArmchair Expert\u201d<\/a> podcast last year, she recalled an unnamed director on HBO\u2019s \u201cThe Newsroom\u201d who smeared her work ethic after she disagreed with his suggestions of how her character, Sloan Sabbith, would behave alongside Don Keefer (played by Thomas Sadoski) in a scene. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was on the one-yard-line for the movie and my manager calls me and says, \u2018Hey, you\u2019re gonna get the role. But first, I guess there\u2019s another director who they know and he says that on \u2018The Newsroom\u2019 you were late all the time and really combative,\u2019\u201d she said at the time. \u201cI was like, \u2018I know who this is.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

These days, Munn can be seen on the Apple TV+ crime drama series \u201cYour Friends & Neighbors<\/a>,\u201d which also stars Jon Hamm. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview<\/a> published last week, she said she hoped to set an example for other female actors by standing up for herself in the film industry. <\/p>\n
