{"id":391088,"date":"2026-04-10T05:07:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T05:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/391088\/"},"modified":"2026-04-10T05:07:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T05:07:09","slug":"man-refused-bail-accused-of-smashing-up-house-in-north-kerry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/391088\/","title":{"rendered":"Man refused bail accused of smashing up house in North Kerry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man has been refused bail accused of smashing up a house and committing assaults in North Kerry at the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>37-year-old Dan McCarthy of 46 Castleview Estate, Newcastle West, appeared in Tralee District Court yesterday for a bail application.<\/p>\n<p>He faces ten charges all arising from incidents at an estate in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiokerry.ie\/news\/moyvane\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Moyvane<\/a> last Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s alleged Mr McCarthy entered a house in Moyvane at 8pm on Saturday, and then caused significant damage to the house; specifically, the front door, back patio door, five windows, toilet, sink, refrigerator, dishwasher, 50-inch television, and venetian blinds.<\/p>\n<p>The court was told garda\u00ed believe he was looking for someone at this address, and that man\u2019s mother and young child live at the home he\u2019s alleged to have burgled.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s further accused of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishstatutebook.ie\/eli\/1991\/act\/31\/section\/2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">criminal damage<\/a> to two cars in the same estate.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also alleged Mr McCarthy produced a slash hook while committing these alleged offences.<\/p>\n<p>Mr McCarthy is also accused of assaulting a man and a woman at the same estate in Moyvane, and of demanding money from the woman.<\/p>\n<p>He faces one charge of unlawfully taking the vehicle belonging to the woman on the same date in Moyvane.<\/p>\n<p>Garda\u00ed objected to bail due to the nature and strength of their evidence, and their belief he would commit serious offences if released on bail.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Garda Shane O\u2019Driscoll said there were no conditions that could be attached to bail that would alleviate his concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Mr McCarthy\u2019s solicitor Pat Mann submitted his client is a full-time carer for his father, and his family can offer up to \u20ac5,000 to the court.<\/p>\n<p>Mr McCarthy told the court he would be willing to stay out of North Kerry if granted bail.<\/p>\n<p>Judge David Waters refused bail, and said it was never addressed why Mr McCarthy was allegedly in Kerry while supposed to be caring for his father.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A man has been refused bail accused of smashing up a house and committing assaults in North Kerry&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":391089,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[42,43,173382,40,38,41,39],"class_list":{"0":"post-391088","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-headlines","8":"tag-headlines","9":"tag-news","10":"tag-refused-bail","11":"tag-top-news","12":"tag-top-stories","13":"tag-topnews","14":"tag-topstories"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/391088","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=391088"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/391088\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/391089"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=391088"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=391088"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=391088"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
