Three Irish cyclists have reportedly been injured on Spain’s Costa Blanca in a crash involving a driver in a car as they were cycling in a larger group.<\/p>\n

One of the cyclists has suffered head injuries and all three were taken from the crash scene by ambulances for hospital treatment, according to reports in the Spanish media.<\/p>\n

The three cyclists – aged\u00a0 56, 59, and 62 – were riding in a larger group when the collision occurred on the CV-925 road in the municipality of Orihuela.<\/p>\n

The most seriously injured victim was described as being in critical condition while the his two friends was said to be seriously injured.<\/p>\n

The crash happened just after 3.30pm local time yesterday, Wednesday, near the La Pedrera reservoir, close to the village of Torremendo.<\/p>\n

The Informaci\u00f3n news site said Civil Guard Traffic Unit officers and Orihuela Local Police responded to the scene, where three ambulances were in attendance.<\/p>\n

The two cyclists who are seriously injured were taken to the Vega Baja Hospital while the other, who had suffered a head injury, was taken to the Vinalop\u00f3 Hospital in Elche for treatment.<\/p>\n

The exact circumstances of the crash were unclear, though an investigation is now underway. Local reports suggest the region is very popular with cyclists, and for those involved in other outdoor sports.<\/p>\n
