David Muir covered the ‘shaky’ ceasefire during Thursday’s episode of World News Tonight<\/p>\n

David Muir updated viewers with where the U.S. and Iran stands amid their tension-filled two-week ceasefire that President Donald Trump recently implemented.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, April 9, David<\/a>, 52, provided the latest details on the U.S.-Iran conflict, which seem to be worsening despite negotiations scheduled to start Friday, April 10. Trump, 79, initiated a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, April 7, temporarily backtracking on the previous threat he made to Iran online, in which he would annihilate the country to where a “whole civilization would die” if Iran didn’t open the Strait of Hormuz by 8 p.m. Tuesday.<\/p>\n

“The president tonight and the shaky ceasefire<\/a> with Iran now being tested,” David said on-air. “Only three known ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz today. Iran’s demands today involving Israel now.”<\/p>\n

David then passed off the segment on Trump’s ceasefire to ABC’s Chief Foreign Correspondent Ian Pannell, who gave a deeper dive into the current situation.<\/p>\n

“Tonight, nearly 48 hours after President Trump called for that ceasefire with Iran, the number one condition to open the Strait of Hormuz immediately,” Ian said. “Tonight it does appear that only three cargo ships getting through that critical passageway today, where 20 percent of the world’s oil remains at a standstill tonight, showing just how fragile this truce is.”<\/p>\n

Ian added that “late today,” Trump was “warning Iran ‘better not be’ charging tolls to go through the Strait of Hormuz, saying, ‘if they are, they better stop now!’ The regime saying it’ll keep control of the vital waterway, [but] before the President started this war, there was unfettered access through the Strait. Iran did not control it.”<\/p>\n

David reported on Wednesday, April 8, about the Pakistan-backed truce, saying at the beginning of his show, “Good evening we begin here tonight with the breaking news, the U.S. and Iran, and tonight the White House acknowledging this is a fragile ceasefire and it’s already being tested tonight.”<\/p>\n

ABC’s Chief White House Correspondent Mary Bruce delivered most of the reporting on the situation, stating, “Just hours after Trump announced the two-week ceasefire, Iran then saying it had closed the Strait of Hormuz. The White House had demanded Iran open the critical passageway.”<\/p>\n

Mary then shared, “Negotiations are supposed to begin in earnest this weekend in Pakistan, but the two sides are not on the same page on a host of issues. And tonight Iran says the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, and that was President Trump’s top demand when he agreed to this ceasefire.”<\/p>\n
