\u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/fuel-protests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/fuel-protests\/\">Fuel protests<\/a> across Ireland are continuing for a fourth day on Friday, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/oil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/oil\/\">petrol<\/a> and diesel supplies at Irish forecourts under threat of running dry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Hauliers and agricultural contractors began a series of protests on Tuesday, which have grown from slow-moving convoys on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\">Dublin<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/m50\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/m50\/\">M50<\/a> to blockades of fuel depots that supply half the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">That has raised concern over panic buying at forecourts, some of which have run out of fuel, as well as impacts on emergency services and deliveries of key supplies for animal welfare on farms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Below is the latest information on the protests on Friday, including road closures, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/public-transport\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/public-transport\/\" target=\"_blank\">public transport<\/a> disruption and fuel supply issues.<\/p>\n<p>Dublin city centre<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Fuel protests and road blockades are continuing on Friday in central Dublin. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">O\u2019Connell Street and O\u2019Connell Bridge are blocked by protesters, along with Westmoreland Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The north and south quays and D\u2019Olier Street remain open to traffic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/2026\/04\/10\/live-fuel-protests-ireland-m50-dublin-luas\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Live updates as the fuel protests cause traffic disruption in Dublin and countrywideOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p>Roads and motorways<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Fuel protests on a range of national routes are causing disruption for motorists in counties Clare, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/limerick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/limerick\/\">Limerick<\/a>, Tipperary, Laois, Westmeath, Offaly, Kildare, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/galway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/galway\/\">Galway<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cork\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/cork\/\">Cork<\/a> and Dublin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In Dublin, the M50 is closed at junction 3\/the interchange with the M1, which will impact traffic heading to Dublin Airport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The M50 northbound is blocked between junctions 6 and 5.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The M1 is blocked southbound at junction 18, which is the Carlingford exit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The M7 remains closed at Portlaoise in both directions, while the M8 northbound from Cashel to Cahir is also blocked by protests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In Limerick the M7 is blocked at Annacotty in both directions and the M18\/N18 is closed southbound at junction 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In Co Westmeath, the M6\/N6 is blocked at junction 8 near Athlone, while the M4\/N4 is closed at junction 14 near Mullingar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In Co Kilkenny, the M9 is blocked northbound at junction 9.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The M18 in Co Clare is closed at Dromoland.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Fuel protesters on O'Connell Street in Dublin city centre. Services are operating between Broombridge and Dominick Street and between St Stephen\u2019s Green and Brides Glen only.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Luas Red Line services are operating as normal on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Dublin Bus<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-bus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-bus\/\">bus<\/a> network in the capital is experiencing more disruptions and delays on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Many morning express services to the city centre were cancelled. Other cross-city bus services are continuing to be diverted on Friday and are using different termini.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The full list of cancellations, route diversions and termini changes can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dublinbus.ie\/news\/central-control-9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dublinbus.ie\/news\/central-control-9\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bus \u00c9ireann<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/bus-eireann\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/bus-eireann\/\">Bus \u00c9ireann<\/a> services continue to be significantly impacted on Friday due to the fuel protests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The operator said it has deployed additional staff at key locations to assist customers and to maintain service as best as possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Cork city services may experience disruptions and diversions on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Bus \u00c9ireann is updating its list of cancelled or delayed services by region:<\/p>\n<p>Rosslare<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Protesters close to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/rosslare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/rosslare\/\">Rosslare<\/a> Europort were served with a section 8 of the Public Order Act by garda\u00ed on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Social media footage late on Thursday showed officers warning protesters they could be arrested if they did not peacefully disperse from an area near the port in Co Wexford.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Garda\u00ed posted on social media on Friday morning and said \u201ccritical deliveries\u201d left the port overnight after \u201cpositive and constructive engagement with local protesters\u201d during the fuel demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p>Fuel blockades and supply issues<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Protesters have restricted access to a major oil refinery in Whitegate, Co Cork, as well as fuel depots in Galway city and Foynes, Co Limerick.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It has raised concern over panic buying at petrol stations.
