Dermot Kennedy has become the first Irish solo artist to reach number one with his first three studio albums in the UK, according to the Official Charts Company.<\/p>\n
The 14-track record, The Weight Of The Woods, has also become his third Irish No 1.<\/p>\n
The Dublin-born singer-songwriter, 34, took the top spot with his 2019 debut album Without Fear, and his second album Sonder, released in 2022.<\/p>\n
Kennedy is the first Irish soloist to have topped the UK charts with his first, second and third albums.<\/p>\n
Largely written and recorded in a studio close to his home on the Dublin-Kildare border, alongside sessions in Nashville, the album was made with close collaborator and producer Gabe Simon, whose previous credits include work with Noah Kahan and Lana Del Rey.<\/p>\n
Simon and the team spent the opening week and a half driving around the country collecting instruments from Galway and Cork. Concertina player Cormac Begley was brought in to contribute, while Muireann N\u00ed Sh\u00e9 plays uilleann pipes on the record, and a bodhr\u00e1n replaces a conventional drum on several tracks.<\/p>\n
This summer sees Kennedy headline his biggest tour to date, taking in Hamburg, Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Munich, Vienna, Amsterdam, and a headline show at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on 11 and 12 July.<\/p>\n
The Weight Of The Woods has also topped the UK vinyl albums chart for the most physical records sold and is at number one on the official record store chart for albums sold in independent UK record shops.<\/p>\n
Olivia Dean’s album, The Art of Loving, was knocked from the top spot in Ireland by Kennedy.<\/p>\n
